Overview
The mullet is a hairstyle more commonly worn by men, and occasionally by women. It consists of trimming the hair in front of the ears short, giving bangs, a part, or short spikes. Hair behind the ears is left untrimmed and allowed to grow to shoulder-length or longer. The long hair may be worn loose, or in a pony tail. The image of the haircut is characterized by the saying, "business in the front, party in the back."
Cultural Stigma
In the United States, the mullet is stereotyped as a style popular in the southern states. There it is considered a symbol of Redneck culture.
