Button Mashing

Button Mashing is a concept used to describe any game or gameplay wherein skill is an aside to how fast a player can hit the buttons on the controller.

Experience Points

Achievements

Achievements are extra challenges added into games. Completing these challenges could increase your Gamerscore.

Multiple Protagonists

The story mode of the game features multiple playable main characters.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, commonly refers to the programmed behaviors of NPCs in a game, whether it's the fact that a soldier takes cover behind a wall in Gears of War, or that townspeople cheer upon your arrival to their village in Fable.

One-Man Army

Some guys are just manlier than the rest of us. These men (and occasionally, women) can take on scores of enemies with little more than a pistol and their wits and emerge with barely a scratch.

Hack and Slash

RPG games that focus more on the action rather than telling a deep story. This term can also refer to action games which focus on hack and slash gameplay.

Elf

Elves are a race found in a lot of games based on a fantasy setting. A famous type of elf is that of the Night Elf class/race in the Warcraft universe.

Dragons

Dragons were originally (according to early Buddhist texts) messengers from heaven. In computer games they are mostly adversaries to be overcome, but there are some exceptions.

Orbs

In many games such as God of War and Devil May Cry, "Orbs, or "Souls", if you will, spawn out of the enemies you destroy and provide you with either sweet life or power. Many times these "Orbs" can also be used as a currency of sorts to upgrade your equipment or power level.

Power Up

Power Ups can be used to give the controlling or any character in the game temporary or permanently upgrades. These power ups can power up the character ranging anywhere from flight to strength to anything else you can think of.

Dwarves

Dwarves are a short, stout race that appear in any number of fantasy games and stories. They are almost always depicted as short with bushy beards similar to vikings.

Human

Homo Sapien is the dominant species of the planet Earth, located in the Sol System. The only sentient species on the planet that is also sapient, Humanity is responsible for amazing accomplishments as well as incredible atrocities committed against both themselves and the planet which they call home.

Special Attack

Featured mainly in fighting games, special attacks usually require more than just pressing a button to activate. They are usually unique or at least varied between characters.

Coordinated Attack

Some games let you coordinate with party members to unleash special attacks through precisely timing your attack efforts.

Platinum Games

While some games can sell hundreds of thousands of units, not all are recognized as being Platinum Games immediately. Sometimes it can take a while for these games to be re-released at a cheaper price, as demonstrated by both Sony and Microsoft, but when they are they become part of the Platinum range on that platform.

Boss Fight

A boss fight is a culminating challenge that pits the player against one or more enemies representing a greater threat and/or difficulty than those previously faced. These scenarios typically feature unique antagonists.

Hand to Hand Combat

"Hand to hand. It is the basis of all combat." -Gray Fox
