    Naofumi Hataya attended Rikkyo University in Saitama, Japan. While attending university, he was a part of a rock band along with several other students. After graduating, he sought a job at a music company to further improve his musical skills and managed to land a job at Sega in 1990, where he has composed a large amount of the company's well known games. He is a frequent collaborator with fellow Sega composer Tomoko Sasaki.
