NCsoft is a Korean game developer who are well-known for their popular massively multiplayer online games.

In 1997, South Korean software developer T.J. Kim founded NCsoft. The company's first product was not a game but a HTML editor. It wasn't til the next year that NCsoft would release their first game, Lineage. Lineage became the first MMORPG to ever exceed 100,000 subscribers in Korean. Though the game was a giant success in Korea, Lineage also became a success in Japan and the United States. In 2001, NCsoft expanded to the United States when they established a subsidiary stationed in Austin, Texas named NCsoft Interactive. The subsidiary was created through a partnership with Destination Games, headed by Richard Garriott. In 2004, NCsoft would launch its sequel to Lineage, Lineage II. The very next day NCsoft's next big MMORPG would launch in the way of City of Heroes. Originally, NCsoft simply acted as the publisher for the game with Cryptic Studios as the developer. That was until 2007 when NCsoft assumed full control of the project.

Shortly after the launch of City of Heroes, NCsoft expanded with a new studio in Brighton, England. The next year, NCsoft would launch their biggest game to date, Guild Wars. Though Guild Wars continued NCsoft's MMO trend, the game was more an action RPG with online multiplayer than a true MMO. Following the success of Guild Wars and City of Heroes, NCsoft would go on to launch other MMOs, Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, Dungeon Runners and more.

Currently, NCsoft is working on MMOs Aion: Tower of Eternity and Lineage III.
