As if the Need for Speed naming conventions wasn't fucked enough already, EA come along and release another Most Wanted. Surely they could of come up with a better title, or at least put a fucking II on the end of it.

This really confused me, too. In fact for the longest time I didn't even realize this was a new game coming out.

They want you to forget that game happened? I don't know. Why do video game companies do a lot of things?

Probably because calling it Most Wanted II would be even more confusing to those who played the original, wondering why literally everything about the first Most Wanted isn't in this game.

Absolutely; but it's also probably exactly why they decided not to call it that. Also, it's an "old" game, so just now putting out a sequel to it would look kind of weird.

They should have gone with The Need for The Speed: The Most Wanted. Grittiest reboot EVER. Basically Carmageddon.

Criterion's always operated under the "we love the Need for Speed franchise but wanted to reboot it our own way" guise. Hot Pursuit was the same way. They just lift the name from the past Need for Speed it is most parallel to.

They should have named it: "Need for Speed: Paradise" !

Or why not "Need For Speed: Too Wanted".

Coming next year, Need For Speed: Underground 2? ;)

Dear God, that was probably their second choice.

Sequels to old games - just like movies - are out of fashion. If the previous game is older than 5 years then you reboot the title - maybe put "the" in front if you want to differentiate.

Because nothing that made Most Wanted what it was except the open-world and annoying cops is in this game? Honestly I think Criterion just did anything to get to make a Burnout like game again.

Burnout: Most Wanted would have had a nice ring to it, paying homage to both franchises. Oh well.

THERE IS NOT ENOUGH STYLES OF BEYOND IN THIS GAME TO BE A MOST WANTED GAME.

I remember during E3 this year in one of the interviews with someone at Criterion, the guy said that the reason why they went with the name is basically because Criterion doesn't make sequels for other people's games. They want it to be their own thing.

@Zaccheus: Guess not, can't remember if they said anything else about it during that interview. Can't recall which site did the interview either since a friend of mine and I were watching a couple of different streams at once.

Need For Speed: The Most Wanted Burnout 2 :Paradise

Because companies are obsessed with reboots.

Because it really isn't. It's too bad a lot of Most Wanted fans bought this thinking it'd be more of the same...

The first Need for Speed: Most Wanted was a fun single player game.

Judging by Jeff's review, I don't think the direct comparison between new and old favours the new game.

@EVO: The hot pursuit Titles have always been strange. The first one was "Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit" Next was "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit II" and then (if we skip most wanted for a second) "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit"

It's like the titles are regressing in some weird way, so when you tell me they're releasing Most Wanted, a name that already existed in the same generation, I just laugh that they ran out of Numbers before zero.

Man that's so dumb as in calling it Need For Speed wasn't enough and from the looks of it 2005 Need For Speed Most Wanted seems to be the better racing game unless you're really into multiplayer and leaderboards.

Hot Pursuit games were even more fucked up:

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Hot Pursuit 2 was my favorite, though.

This game is Criterion's version.

Because it's not a continuation nor expansion of the first game? It's by a different dev? That counts as a remake not a sequel.
