A semi-real-time roguelike by Michael Steven Höenie, released under several different names from 1988 to 1992.
Kingdom of Kroz is the first game in the Kroz series created by Scott Miller. It is also the first game released by Apogee Software.
A text-based adventure/RPG inspired by The Wizard's Castle and Rogue. Players must explore a castle to find the titular Amulet of Yendor. There's no graphical depiction of the player or environment, it's only described in text.
A shareware RPG by Lightwave Consultants, released in 1985. Notable for its real-time combat and stamina/fatigue system.
An ASCII-based RPG where death is swift and around every corner.
In this almost-but-not-quite Roguelike, you play a lone warrior exploring the mysterious dungeons of Aphsai, collecting treasure and better equipment as you proceed. It is an action-adventure game, and lacked RPG mechanics.
Sword of Fargoal is a "Rogue-like" role-playing game that charges players with the task of descending into a randomly generated dungeon, retrieving a sword, and escaping. Since the escape is limited to 2000 seconds and death is permanent, actually completing the game is notoriously difficult.
Rogue is a classic ASCII-based RPG, infamous for its difficulty. It is known for spawning its own genre, called Roguelikes, and its influences can still be seen in a wide variety of other games.
A space exploration rougelike focused on charting unexplored worlds.
A roguelike PC game developed by Linley Henzell, released in 1997 and is still being improved upon as of 2009, through the open source Stone Soup project.
Dark Woods 2 is an ASCII-based adventure game.
Shattered Pixel Dungeon is a traditional roguelike RPG which aims to deliver a more streamlined and accessible traditional roguelike experience while maintaining a deep feature set. The game is built from the open source of Pixel Dungeon. The two games share some assets and core mechanics, but have grown to be quite different.
A top down RPG in the style of Ultima with CGA graphics. Essentially a remake of John Mather's Ranadinn from the year prior, introducing fog of war/line of sight mechanics and a completely different combat and stat system.
