Neversoft Hiring For An 'Action Shooter'

Posted by BradNicholson (812 posts) - 2 years, 11 months ago

Hey, awesome. Long-time Guitar Hero developer Neversoft Entertainment appears to be working on a new shooter. Super sleuth website superannuation has discovered a recent LinkedIn job listing from the studio asking for an experienced level builder to "work on [a] new action shooter game." It's required that the builder must be able to "build realistic 3D levels and environments."

That's it--there's no tease or suggestion as to what IP, either old or new, Neversoft is working with. The current speculation amongst the blogs is that the studio could be resurrecting Gun. I suppose it's also possible that Neversoft could be working on a Call of Duty game. That's definitely more of a stretch: Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch, and probably even Infinity Ward, are all creating games based on the IP. Hey, maybe they're finally bringing back Bruce Willis and developing Apocalypse 2.

In addition to whatever this shooter is, Neversoft is developing Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. It's due out in September and has a campaign component narrated by the nastiest dude on the planet, Gene Simmons.

Guess Activision saw how well Red Dead Redemption was doing and decided to make Neversoft make a new wild west game. Then they'll release a new one each year with a gun peripheral.

Gun was a pretty good game.  No Red Dead Redemption, but it was great to see a western game and they at least attempted the sandbox approach.

I thought Neversoft recently said they were now a 100% Guitar Hero studio?

Well, whatever it is, it'll be nice to see Neversoft doing something else for a while...even if they do end up going back to Guitar Hero.

That was until Activision fired everyone there that made Guitar Hero.

When Neversoft strayed from Tony Hawk before it tended to turn out pretty cool, except Apocalypse. Spider-man for PS1 was a great game and Gun is also really solid, Red Dead Redemption shows it up in every possible way but Gun was pretty cool when it came out.

I'm happy to see they are not doomed to a Guitar Hero fate, probably thanks to the failing interest in that franchise. Though this could very well be them assisting with a Call of Duty game, that would be my guess, just like Raven. But hey, maybe the success of Red Dead Redemption has put dollar signs in Activision's eyes for a Gun sequel.

They wanna ride on the Red Dead-wave huh? Gun was a decent game, but such a venture would end in tears.

I really hope it's GUN 2. I had fond memories of the first game.

I have a hard time believing this is anything other than Gun 2 which is just fine with me.

Because obviously we need more shooters.
