Official Neverwinter GB Guild!

#1 Edited by Silver-Streak (1343 posts) -

[Mod Edit by Sweep]

The guild is called Order of the Icewind Dave

We're on Mindflayer. Post your name and handle in this thread (character name@account handle) and a guild officer will send you an invite.

GLHB

[Edit by Eujin]

Hey all, I do not actually have invite capabilities into the Order. You'll want to point your replies to @granderojo or @rolyatkcinmai

I'll talk with Sweep about changing this later, or I'll talk with the guild folks about whether I should have invite capabilities, so I can catch replies like those from @rorie and get the invites out. My apologies.

is this game pay to win?

#3 Edited by Silver-Streak (1343 posts) -

@stonepawfox: You'll have to give your definition before I can tell you if it is pay to win or not.

There are lockbox drops which you have to buy (or find ranodmly on monsters) keys for, but the gear they give you aren't really anymore powerful than what you can find as regular drops, you just get multiple pieces per lockbox.

There is a cash shop, and it has a ton of cosmetic stuff.

It also has:

  • Mounts that have unique looks but are the same speed as in-game mounts
  • Companions that have unique looks but are the same power as the in-game companions
  • Packs of crafting materials, but only starter packs(IE: tier 1 and 2 materials)
  • Healing items (you get potions out the wazoo in the game, so not really relevant)
  • "Free" respec tokens (You can buy respecs in the game), rename tokens, extra character slots, extra companion storage slots
  • Full slot bags (which can be eventually obtained in game, too)

That doesn't fit my description of pay to win, and as far as I can tell nothing in the shop is any more powerful than what you get in game, you just get it with real cash rather than in-game cash.

There's also a weird in-game cash to Zen/real cash exchange system, but that market fluctuates wildly in all of Cryptic's games.

I played a good 10-20 hours of this during beta. It was a good time; I might play some of it when it releases (in a few days, right?).

I just wish there was a class that fit my style. I like the 'exotic magic class' (Shaman/Warlock in WoW, for instance). So far, the Control Wizard and Cleric are boring and conventional as fuck. None of their attacks have the oomph or colour that I crave.

@project343: Tuesday is open beta start day, yes.

As far as the classes, I really liked the Great Weapon Fighter. They used to be all about sustained AOE damage with middling single target damage and middling defense, but between the 3rd and 4th beta weekends they got hit by the nerf bat with the force of 1000 suns.

Currently, I think they're supposed to be some sort of hybrid single target DPS/off-tank, but they're kind of really poor at both.

That being said, I am now trying the Control Wizard and Rogue, and they both seem decently fun.

For what you described, I'm betting the Scourge Warlock will be just for you, but that won't actually be out for a while. (Players found the Scourge Warlock and the Two-Weapon Ranger in the game files during beta).

#6 Posted by betusblues (40 posts) -

@eujin I'm going to play it when it hits open beta, so if you're making a GB guild or just want to group up I'm down :D

#7 Posted by FateOfNever (1826 posts) -

I completely forgot this game even existed, let alone that it was actually coming out. I should investigate this matter further.

#8 Posted by Fattony12000 (7264 posts) -

I'll be up for some co-op sometime this year!

#9 Posted by DeathTrap (244 posts) -

I'm totally up for a GB guild. I'm on Mindflayer server as Kilrith@DeathTrap82

#10 Posted by SoulTaker (131 posts) -

I'm down to play.

#11 Posted by Silver-Streak (1343 posts) -

Awesome, seems like folks will be in on Tuesday, then.

The servers are Mindflayer, Beholder, and Dragon.

I am currently on Dragon, but as Deathtrap mentioned he is on Mindflayer. I could likely remake on Tuesday, but would rather people make a decision as a group rather than just me.

#12 Posted by takayamasama (439 posts) -

This game looks interesting, is beta available to all? I havent heard anything about this game.

If so I'll jump in a Giantbomb guild gladly.

#13 Posted by SoulTaker (131 posts) -
#14 Edited by betusblues (40 posts) -

I'll go Mindflayer as well. What are you guys playing/planning to play? I'll probably go guardian or great weapon fighter.

#15 Edited by rentfn (1279 posts) -

I'm in for joining!! I don't have a dude yet so I'll go where ever.

#16 Posted by essi2 (143 posts) -

I'm on Mindflayer, I'll probably come LOOKING FOR YOU guys if you make a GB Guild.

#17 Edited by SoulTaker (131 posts) -

Guess I'll make a new toon on Mindflayer. I might try the cleric class.

So the 3 official servers currently are Mindflayer, Dragon, and Beholder.

It's Dungeons and Dragons, so not going to the Dragon server seems silly.

With that in mind, is anyone going to start a GB Guild, or interested in making one?

Actually, is anyone in the GB Community outside of me going to play?

Wait what, is this game out? Also, Mac?

#19 Posted by Mr_Skeleton (5140 posts) -

I'll be up for some co-op sometime this year!

Careful I might actually take you up on your offer.

#20 Edited by Silver-Streak (1343 posts) -

@legion_: It is out for open beta tomorrow.

I have enjoyed the game since alpha, so I paid the $60 for the horse/starter items, and therefore have been playing since Saturday.

Edit: Removed unintended puns.

But puns are the best!

So it sounds like it's decided that Mindflayer is the realm of choice for GiantBomb players?

The game really caught my attention after hearing about The Foundry (even thought it's not part of the game yet.) I'll have to see how my computer handles the game, but, hopefully it'll run it because I'm more than willing to check out an MMO that has creation tools for stuff like that in it.

No idea about the realm. I currently have all 3 of my guys on Dragon, but am willing to relocate if the majority want Mindflayer.

Pretty sure Foundry is in game - just have to reach level 15 to unlock it.

EDIT: And I've heard Mindflayer is the place to be - it's why I picked that server when I started.

#24 Edited by Silver-Streak (1343 posts) -

So. Sounds like Mindflayer is the place to be based off the responses. I will remake my guys onto Mindflayer, and edit the opening post to let anyone know who comes into the thread.

If/once we get a guild started, we can start a proper guild thread.

Edit: Does anyone have name suggestions for the guild? Lincoln Force/Bomb Squad doesn't sound very D&D-y, but I'm up for whatever.

#25 Posted by jozzy (2042 posts) -

I am planning to try the game out tomorrow, will keep an eye on you guys if I find the game interesting.

#26 Posted by Legion_ (1270 posts) -

Is this available for Mac?

#27 Posted by essi2 (143 posts) -

Just some name suggestions:

  • The Giantbomb Striders
  • The Giant(or Bomb) Company
  • Order of the Chat(ty) Dragon

Imagination isn't my strong suit, but maybe it'll give you some ideas.

Those aren't bad. I like the subtlety of Order of the Chat(ty) Dragon.

My first thought was something related to the gelatinous cube thanks to -

As long as whoever groups with me is OK being called Vinny's Vanguards I'm down. Or Brad's Beserkers. Or Ryan's Roughens. Or Dave's Dastardly Fellows. Or Drew's Drow Slayers. Or Jeff's..... i got nothing for Jeff. Jolly Jailers?

In seriousness, it opens in a few min, we on "Mind-flayers." Do we need to pick a good role for the guild? Seems like that would be smart if we are going to be small.

Edit: Matt's Mutilators. I'm like a terrible name generator.

#30 Posted by betusblues (40 posts) -

Im in! I'm Aegis@betusblues006

#31 Edited by Brodehouse (9778 posts) -

Hrmmm, I suppose Brodehouse will give it a shot. If it sucks though I'm quitting, mark me. I will probably make a tank fighter because that's my favorite D&D class. I don't care if it's simple as shit, simple is elegant. If I could make an atheist paladin I would, because they at least have a good reason to pump up their charisma.

Also I was the one who named Good Luck Have Bothans, the Republic SWTOR guild... So thus I will suggest Good Luck Have Bugbears. Since I doubt people know what balhannoths are. Aside from me.

#32 Posted by Silver-Streak (1343 posts) -

@brodehouse: The Guardian Fighter is surprisingly awesome.

Especially since Block outright blocks all damage infront of you if your guard isn't broken, then you have weird swipe attacks that do good damage.

The Two-Handed Fighter right now is apparently a bit borked, but I may roll one anyway. Or a Wizard. Because ice lasers.

#33 Edited by FateOfNever (1826 posts) -
  • Vorpal Chibi Gelatinous Cubes
  • Dire Chibi Gelatinous Cubes
  • Chibi Gelatinous Cubes of the Underdark
  • Gelatinous Cube Jello Shots
  • Dungeons and Chat Dragons
  • Dave's Icewind Guardians
  • Infinity Engine Heroes
  • Masterwork GiantBomb
  • Flaming GiantBomb Plus Two (+2) (or really any variant of a magical weapon GiantBomb)

Ok, I think that's about all I can conjure up for possible guild names right now, but, I feel there's many a D&D+GiantBomb reference name to choose from, those were just what I could come up with off the top of my head before having to go and make dinner.

I totally know what balhonnoths are by the way!

#34 Posted by Brodehouse (9778 posts) -

@fateofnever: Balhannoths are how you make any rogues or fighters extremely frustrated with the DM's choice of encounter design.

@eujin: Good to hear. Now it's just a matter of the 28 hour download I apparently have ahead of me.

#35 Posted by TheHT (11097 posts) -

I'm down.

The servers are supposedly going to be unified down the line by the way.

#36 Posted by DeathTrap (244 posts) -

I kind of like the sound of "Order of the Chat Dragon"....

#37 Posted by Silver-Streak (1343 posts) -

@deathtrap: I have taken a shine to this. Although I am also fond of "Order of the Blue Whiskey Knight"

#38 Edited by Butler (384 posts) -

Order of the Chat Dragon sounds nifty. And Dungeons and Chat Dragons.

And Force Wizard in training at your service. Because "Look guys, I'm a Wizard, and that looks fucked up."

#39 Posted by Rolyatkcinmai (2684 posts) -

I'm in as well. I'm on Mindflayer.

#40 Edited by TheHT (11097 posts) -

Order of the Chat Dragon is a great name.

I'm also partial to Order of Icewind Dave.

Both seem appropriate.

#41 Edited by Itwastuesday (956 posts) -

I'm down as heck for this

My name is Drizzle Yo'UrDamn@Apsiogjapoifgjps on Mindflayer if anyone wants to left click on monsters near me.

@theht said:

Order of Icewind Dave

I really like this name

#42 Edited by essi2 (143 posts) -

I haven't quiet figured this one out yet, but i think my In-game ID for my main character is Damaia Vicelord@norwegiannorse

#43 Posted by MachoFantastico (4588 posts) -

Will check this out, will most probably join the server you mentioned.

#44 Posted by Ghostiet (5242 posts) -

Might check it out.

#45 Posted by kollay (1928 posts) -

I'm also on Mindflayer. Syrza Ahgregaz@kollay not sure if I typed that in the correct format, though.

I'll be down for some GB guild action.

#46 Edited by Kodamun (2 posts) -

I too am on Mindflayer. Kiwy Stoneheart@Kodamun. Been a big fan of NWN for a long time, and I hear good things about this game.

#47 Edited by Rolyatkcinmai (2684 posts) -

Talked to Dave tonight and he seemed keen on the name Order of Icewind Dave.

Tried to form the group, but I didn't realise you need five level fifteen members to start one.

#48 Posted by subrandom (117 posts) -

I'm 100% in, can't say i'll be able to stick with it with my schedule but mui@hedonismbot

#49 Edited by EgoPoisoning (34 posts) -

I'm on mindplayer. I'd love to be part of a guild. Character name is "Gringlesac"
