Beyond Good & Evil 2 Video Looks Questionable, Incredible

This may or may not be Ubisoft's mysterious new sequel--but whatever it is, it looks hot.

Kotaku has this amazing-looking video that may or may not actually be Beyond Good & Evil 2.

As outlandishly too-fluid-to-be-a-game slick as this looks, it also looks like the natural progression of the sort of character awareness toward the environment that Ubisoft's been perfecting since Assassin's Creed and the most recent Prince of Persia. But then, I'll also say upfront that I've seen confidential proof-of-concept videos come out of Ubisoft for other games that looked a little too good to be true--because they weren't true, of course. But even if this is merely an official example of the direction Michel Ancel and friends are going with this sequel, it's pretty exciting.

I reckon it's true. It looks good any way you see it.

Never played BG&E but I own it. I find it hard to get past the terrible PC controls..

i'll guess we'll just have to wait and see then.

the look reminds me of the original RE5 trailers. Too fluid, too much subtle details everywhere.

ps. looks like 3rd person mirrors edge

Is this another killzone 2 trailer?

No way it's real, forget about the graphics and the animations, just think about what's going on there.  The person was just randomly running around, yet it all worked out for them.  If a player was at the control, no way they could find their way through all that and then know exactly when to make that leap of faith at the end.  It's just a trailer to generate hype and show the concept.

I don't think there's any way that's actual gameplay, but I loved Beyond Good and Evil and this still has me stoked

This is most certainly a hype-machine video, possibly even leaked by people involved with the game on purpose. Or it was meant to be shown at E3 this year. Either way, I'm stoked. I've yet to finish the first game, but love the narration. Some of the gameplay, not so much, but that doesn't mean it's bad or anything.

I like the style... SOrt of like, a subtle TF2 filter of Mirror's Edge, in an Indiana-Jones-esque universe. Also looks a bit too smooth, so I'm guessing not quite... And that helicopter looked like something you'd see in Half Life 2, like it was made from bouys and a mini crane and stuff... Neat.

So what does this have to do with pigs?

There's already a thread going about this, Brad!!!  YEESH!!!  Can we get a mod to lock this?  =  P

Either way, as I said there...and I'll say now...it looks more like a trailer than actual in-game footage.  I have no doubt that it's the in-game engine, though.  Regardless...there are no alien-type creatures and the ox is just an ox.  I'm not saying that it isn't BG&E 2...but for all we know, it may be a tech demo and/or some type of trailer.

the first one on the ps2 was pretty awesome. Short, but awesome. The world was very believable with a nice art style.

"too-fluid-to-be-a-game" haha i see that.

There's no doubt in my mind that this is in engine, hell, even gameplay, animations specifically, but the camera has to be the forced/staged part. Oh and the AI around it all.

Looks great...whatever it really is
CoolDrMoneyon May 8, 2009 at 7:37 p.m.
Is it E3 05 again? That's just a trailer, no way that's gameplay. Hopefully some will be shown at E3 next month.
Luberikon May 8, 2009 at 7:42 p.m.
It could be in-game engine, just a tad tooooo fluid lol. But you see the influence of prince of persia and assas. creed with the bumping into walls and stumbling and stuff. It also kinda reminded me of uncharted 2 trailers and gameplay vids...

I hope they make it as good as the first one story-wise.
PlasmaBeam44on May 8, 2009 at 7:51 p.m.
Yeah that's defiantly BGAE 2. But it's probably not real gameplay. It's too smooth and artificial looking for it to be real.
Agnogenic_deleteon May 8, 2009 at 7:57 p.m.
That looked incredible. :D
Cronoon May 8, 2009 at 8 p.m.
Beyond speculating whether this was ingame or not, it looks like an awesome concept.
ImperiousRixon May 8, 2009 at 8:04 p.m.

I dunno, it looked like it could be in-game footage.  In fact, it seemed like a lot of the things they were doing in the vid (bumping into walls, shimmying past the table) looked like it was done deliberately to show off the in-game engine.  Call me crazy, but not only do I think it's BGAE2, but I believe it's game footage.

The are using Jade's voice FX from BG&E for the grunting and the crying, and of course the extendy bo staff is a giveaway. Also the vehicle she gets in at the end is sporting Mamago's Jamaican colors so it is mosdef BG&E related. I am super pumped up by this, as I think that game is easily last generation's most underrated game, and one of the best adventure games to come out in the last decade and a half.

That defintely doesn't look like Hillys though.

I wonder how much string cheese I will have to buy to get a copy of this!
Mattalorianon May 8, 2009 at 8:09 p.m.
If it's actual gameplay, I'm already sold. If it's just a trailer, the direction the game seems to be going is intriguing. Either way, I'll certainly be keeping an eye on BGAE2.

its definitely a proof-of-concept video... anyone remember the mirrors edge proof-of-concept video?!

Looks amazing.
