Crowds clamoring for this year's hottest items: pistols and ski masks!
With consumer spending here in the US dropping another full percentage point last month--its largest decline since 09/2001--this year's "Black Friday" deals might be sounding a bit more appealing right about now.

This Friday will see a bunch of retailers offering all kinds of crazy deals in the hopes of getting you in the door to spent more money than you had initially planned on their other stuff. It's consumerism at its finest, and maybe if we all just play along, we can spend our way out of the economic downturn. OK, I'll admit that it's been a very long time since I've been in any sort of econ class, so I could be wrong about this whole "maybe if we pretend everything is OK, everything will be OK" business. I do, however, giggle everytime I hear the words "stimulus package."

Either way, if you're in the market for some new stuff, chances are there will be a retailer selling that stuff at a discount this Friday. If you're trying to find a bunch of video game deals, CitizenKane and a dedicated group of doorbusters have compiled a handy thread in our forums that list a lot of the big computer-and-game-related sales taking place later this week. Check it out!

If you're looking for something bigger than a video game, a bunch of sites pop up around this time of year to point you precisely to what you're looking for. Though I haven't really checked all of them against one-another, bfads.net seems to have a good-sized list that's easily sortable by retailer and category. Personally, I'd like to find a nice, big-ass LCD monitor for about nine dollars. So far, no luck!

A big-ass LCD monitor for 20 times that much would be unlikely, so 9 is probably pushing it.

I went to a Black Friday sale at Wal-Mart once, and if you want a sneak peak into armageddon, go for it. Hoards of people crowding through hallways snatching crap off other peoples carts, yelling, screaming, and kids crying.

I was going to go and buy a nice big screen TV but I lent the money to my friend to make his first porno movie...

Since when was this such a big deal?  I keep thinking people mean some sort of economic crisis that started the Great Depression when people talk about Black Friday.  Did this start up a few years ago?  Have I been in a coma?  Arrrgh!

Meh... unless someone's selling Call of Duty: World at War or Fallout 3 for 20 dollars I could care less about any of this. Newegg.com always has great prices on the things I like, so I never feel the need to wait in the cold at 5am on Black Friday for the junk Best Buy is trying to throw away.

A lot of great deals this Friday.  I will be getting BIA: HH and maybe Turok.
And a shitload of Blu-Ray movies.

It's usually a good time to get older games that have been out for a while.  I did see some nice Xbox and PS3 bundles as well as discounted Blu-Ray movies.

America should 1)use the damn metric system like everyone else, and 2)have the same holidays as us,like Thanksgiving on November, that sucks.

I work at Target, so yeah I'm not excited for Black Friday. I'll probably shop there before my shift starts though, try and buy some cheap DVDs since they're usually some good deals.
