Black!
Black!
Reports tracing back to the Portuguese version of Eurogamer have surfaced with claims that a new sequel to Black was briefly posted on Criterion's official site and then quickly pulled from public view. Didn't see it myself, so we can't really confirm anything further, but it certainly sounds plausible.

The story claims that the game, titled Black: Second Mission, will be released in 2009 on PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360. Sort of a boring name. They should just call it "Blacker." Or "Black 2: Bigger & Blacker." Or call it "Black Black" and get a tie-in with the Japanese candy of the same name.

It feels like ancient history now, but this isn't the first time a sequel to Black has been mentioned. It came up in EA financial reports given prior to the launch of the current generation of consoles as a game that was in development. Criterion has since gone on to deny that a sequel to its explosion-focused first-person shooter was in development, but it's always felt sort of inevitable. The game's release as a downloadable Xbox Original earlier this year only furthered the notion that we'd someday see a sequel.

The original Black was an interesting game, but one that felt short and a bit singular in its gameplay. The game's main trick was to almost always have the enemies standing near barrels or other explosive objects, turning the game into a kind of basic shooting gallery. Still, it had a great sense of a style and those explosions were pretty fantastic. I'd definitely be interested in seeing Criterion take another crack at it, especially if it received the long-term attention that the company's given to its most recent release, Burnout Paradise.

I'm not that excited. If you didn't play the original heres the scoop: enemies near barrels. SHOOT BARREL. end of game.
But if it matches the quality of Paradise.....

I like the last suggestion.  Bigger and Blacker.  Sounds like the name of a sequel of me.  Except i am not black. So Bigger and Black added?
Black 2:  Multiplayer Included this time!

I think on this gen of consoles . That this game can finally be as good as i had hoped the first one would have been. It had alot of good building blocks. Now they can put it all together. Burnout team rocks !!

FP shooters more popular than masturbation. Burnout Paradise success enabling Criterion to afford prostitutes of a high class Vegas nature. RenderWare as dope as it can be. the ego Criterion got after Black.
don't see why they wouldn't follow up. "Black 2: Bigger and Blacker" "Black Black" heh heh heh heh heh good times.

I'd like to see a return to Black.  The basic formula of black was beautiful and fun, just wasn't always executed right.  If they take lessons learned from the first one it could be something to look forward to.

"Back and Blacker"

I really like what Black got right, all they needed where for the game to take place in more exciting locations and more gameplay variety. I am surprised we haven't seen a sequel already.

First one wasn't all bad, but I'm confident that they can make up for many of the mistakes the first one had.

"Black 2: Bigger and Blacker."

Will that one get past the censors? I say they just call it "Back in Black".

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I loved the first black soooo much. I dont care if it was singleplayer only. I only play SP games anyways. I bought it for 6$!  Ive played the game 5 times now. IT was pure joygasm.

The best was the 2nd last level on the bridge. I loved the crazy explosions, and the awesome guns  and scenarios.Im so happy.

Black was a game in which weapons had weight, everything you did (shot) had an effect (to a limited extent), it was mindless fun. And it looked awesome for a console game, at the time.

I say bring the sequel on.

I really enjoyed the first Black, so I'm looking forward to this (Mythbusters confirm: PLAUSIBLE) sequel, Then sign me up. Holmes. Why has'nt anyone thought of 'White' or 'Not Black' or something? Mix it up! Also, Midget Gems are the only sweets that I enjoy the lemon flavour. Maybe Fruit gums.
