Is Gabe Newell about to be a Google man?
I want to be a Well-Placed Source. Those guys seem to have all the fun when it comes to video games and business.
For example, take a look at
The Inquirer this morning--according to one of their Well-Placed Sources, Google is "going to be buying Valve any second now."
I just woke up like ten minutes ago, so to be honest with you, I'm not 100 percent sure that any of this is even happening. If I am actually asleep, and this isn't actually going down, then what's leading to this weird-ass dream instead of the one where I'm really good at baseball or the one where I can fly, but only when I'm nude? Sooo confusing.
Maybe
Soulja Boy needs to open up a news division so we can all be on-top of stuff like this.
[UPDATE} MTV contacted Valve's
Doug Lombardi, who is
quoted as saying this is a "complete fabrication." Start your "BUT OF COURSE HE WOULD SAY THAT" conspiracy theories right... now!

Gabe Newell cashes out at Microsoft, develops his own private fifedom in PC gaming, and then sells it to Google. Really?
If so, I won't be buying anything on Steam anymore.

I'm still not sure its going to happen, but I don't see how it would be a bad thing if it does.

I'm also a bit confused - why, exactly, would this be a bad thing? Everything we've ever heard from Google employees is that they're good managers of their assets - they know how much Valve's games are worth, so they certainly wouldn't screw with that, and they know how top-of-the-line Steam is, so they wouldn't mess with that either. And as someone already mentioned, Valve would have a billion dollar company backing them (not that they're short for cash or anything).
So, uhh, downside?

That doesn't look like something Google would do. Even considering Steam, it is way out of their field.
Also Jeff, I wouldn't rule out the dream yet. Did you try getting naked and see if you can fly? Come on, I dare you!!

Ah well, think think this will ever happen. Nice dreams you have Jeff! They can get that crazy, oh yes.

I dunno, but if this is true; It seems a little bit weird that Google is intrested in gaming all of a sudden. This is more about Steam than anything else really, Which - I must say - is probably a good thing. A Google powered Steam will do much better, cosidering that companies like EA still don't want their stuff on Steam because it's run by Valve.

Valve a Lame company?
You must have awful taste in games. TF2 and Portal are pure genius.
Steam has its faults, but it's head and shoulders above it's digi distribution peers, i'm a total convert to it, having previously been of the 'i always want my game on a disc' school of thought.
