Doom 4 Revealed! ...At Next Year's QuakeCon

Not exactly surprised, are you?

This is the old Doom. Remember this?
This is the old Doom. Remember this?
If you were holding out the vain hope that you'd hear something about Doom 4 at this year's QuakeCon, as I was, you can exhale now. id Software reps mentioned during the kickoff press conference at QuakeCon that the only piece of news they have about the next Doom at this QuakeCon is that the company won't be saying or showing anything about it until next QuakeCon. So come back in a year.

Actually, here's a small piece of news, at least to me: the project is being run by company co-founder Kevin Cloud, who's worked on all id's games going back to the original Doom and Wolfenstein.

That's all. As you were!

I remember when that screenshot was first released and I was totally mesmerized by the graphics.

Time sure flies by.

ha, yeah I remember that, when Doom 3 came out everybody was going crazy about how amazing the graphics were.

So they made an announcement that they're going to make an announcement? If they have a rough idea of what they're going to announce next year, why not just announce it now and let us wait until next year to get some small details on it? You don't have to announce a game with an idea of what it's gonna be like; hell, Square-Enix did that with Dragon Quest VI, and they still haven't released it. *grows angry at Square*

Cool, I can wait, I don't want a churn out like 3 was,The franchise really needs to be revitalized somehow.

Dood, Doom 3 is still a gorgeous game.  =  P

Also...WHEN, LORD, WHEN WILL I GET MY SCREENSHOTS AND DETAILS ABOUT DOOM 4?!
RsistncEon Aug. 13, 2009 at 4 p.m.
OK, honestly if my jaw doesn't drop like it did when I saw Doom 3 the first time I won't be impressed. SRSLY.
punkxblazeon Aug. 13, 2009 at 4:07 p.m.
Oh god, just give us Doom already. I can't be the only person tired of hearing Carmack and Hollenshead pimp Rage.

Damn, this is not surprising but still a bummer to hear. Oh well. Also, Doom 3 continues to look pretty good. I have always had faith in that game.
ryanwhoon Aug. 13, 2009 at 4:33 p.m.
Honestly? Id rather see Monolith try and make the next Doom. Cus everything Doom 3 tried and failed to do FEAR succeeded at.
iam3greenon Aug. 13, 2009 at 4:57 p.m.
cool, i think, it seemed like doom 3 was just a little hyped.
Bucketdethon Aug. 13, 2009 at 5:43 p.m.

I wonder if Doom 4 will do what Doom 3 did graphics wise.

Deusomaon Aug. 13, 2009 at 5:44 p.m.
Doom 3 was a horror game, and therefore not a proper sequel to Doom. Here's hoping Doom 4 is a return to excessive monster slaying action with a minimum of plot. Come on, ID, I've been waiting since 1994. :(
MrKloroxon Aug. 13, 2009 at 7:06 p.m.
I'd have been surprised if they actually had shown it.

I'm still butthurt Rage won't have day/night cycle nor modability. I at least hope Doom4 comes with Tech5 mod tools.

@MrKlorox:
Did they take the Day/Night cycles off of the game?
Brendanon Aug. 13, 2009 at 9:24 p.m.

Man that Doom 3 screenshot reminded me of just how mindblowing those graphics were at the time.  Heck if that screenhot was for a game releasing this year I wouldn't be too dissapointed.  Just goes to show the power of the original XBOX.

See clip two of this interview video. In Part 3 he mentions low modability of Rage. I'm posting part one right here.
