Insert extreme ATV-related joke here.
Far Cry 2 is still hot off the presses, and Ubisoft is already prepping some new downloadable content to be released "by the end of November." The Fortune's Pack DLC will run you 800 Microsoft points on Marketplace or 9.99 You-Ess-Dees on the PlayStation Store.
So what's in this thing? Here's the list, straight out the release.
Single-Player Mode
Three brand-new weapons
- Silenced shotgun
- Sawed-off shotgun
- Crossbow
Two new vehicles
Multiplayer Mode
Four new exciting maps
- Cheap Labor
- Last Resort
- Lake Smear
- Fort Fury
New single-player weapons and vehicles also available in multiplayer
Seems like a decent chunk of new stuff for your 10 bones, but as someone who's already finished the single-player campaign, that small handful of new guns and vehicles isn't really compelling me to get back in and keep tearing it up in the African merc scene. I guess if you're going for more achievements or you want to take out every last side mission, this could inject some good variety as you continue to grind. I didn't feel like the on-disc arsenal was lacking in the first place, though. It also seems a little weird to offer new multiplayer maps when the game ships with a pretty solid map editor that anyone can use, but then I bet these maps are way better than anything players are going to create anytime soon.
Far Cry 2 shipped a month ago, almost to the day, so this certainly looks like the sort of content that was at least being worked on--if not already finished--prior to release. Maybe it's trite at this point to get incensed about having to cough up more cash for content that arguably could have been included on the disc for freebies, but you know, whatevers. It's Friday. Additional paid content for all!
EDIT: The press release makes no mention of this content coming to the PC version; I'm guessing it won't. PC DLC is still a dicey proposition for publishers due to piracy and lack of control. It seems like you have to make a choice: Put it out for free on the PC and neglect the consoles,
Valve-style, or put it out for pay on the consoles and skip the PC, everyone-else-style. Let's find a happy medium, people!

I... don't think so.

?
Huh? Well, right now I'm 54% through and it's welcomed if it comes out before I finish the game. But there is no way I will replay the campaign for the DLC. The game doesn't get enough credit for what it's worth, but it is definitely disappointing.

Keep your overpriced content, Ubisoft.
Besides, the only use i see for any of that is the places you can reach by climbing on that truck.
Crossbow is cool, i must admit. But why? i have a dart rifle that does the exact same with propably more range.

For me this feels like you are paying them for not finishing the game, GTA's new content is new and extra content and extra maps for multiplayer like in Halo etc is all fine, but if you come out with some weeks after a release you should have put them in the game and it is totally wrong for that company to stick a price tag on that.

now all they need is the awesome bolt gun :)
