Alongside Guitar Hero: On Tour, Activision also showed what appeared to be damn-near final versions of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith to the press, and the game wildly met all of my expectations. If you’ve played Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, then you have a good idea of what this game has to offer, save for the inclusion of a weirdly muppety-lookin’ Aerosmith. The structure of the game hasn’t changed, though now the progression has a little more context, with the first two songs coming from bands other than Aerosmith, effectively making them opening acts.

The only surprise I had during my time with the game was the inclusion of Darryl “D.M.C.” Matthews McDaniels as a playable character alongside the usual gallery of cartoony rock-n-roll misfits. I’ll say that Neversoft has really committed to the concept of a band-specific Guitar Hero, with details like real-world venues and informal interview clips with the band, I’m just not convinced that a band-specific Guitar Hero is something I want, regardless of the band.
