I can totally hear my brain!
I can totally hear my brain!
Along with Tekken 2, Wipeout XL was one of the major catalysts in my purchase of a PlayStation. Get a couple cocktails in me and I'll ramble endlessly about the bracing sense of speed, the slick ship designs, the (then) uniquely futuristic graphic design work of The Designers Republic, and of course, the severely zeitgeist-y Astralwerks soundtrack. Wipeout XL also marked my first exposure to Red Bull, the net results of which are still being determined.

So needless to say, it brings me great joy to report that Sony announced this morning through its lovely PlayStation Blog that Wipeout HD (I don't care if Sony itself spells it wipEout, I've got no patience for dumb-ass capitalization) is coming to the PlayStation Network on September 25 for the low, low price of $19.99. In addition to some hot 1080p graphics, Wipeout HD promises five gameplay modes, online play for up to eight players, offline splitscreen, 8 reversable tracks, optional SIXAXIS support, Trophy support, more European techno music than you can shake a stick at, and custom soundtrack support.

A HUGE package for $20.  You'd be dumb not to buy this.

Is it an update of the PSP game or an entirely new Wipeout?

Never played a wipeout but i think i'll give this a go.  Just got a new ps3 and all i have so far is MGS4, so needless to say i'm always on the hunt for solid new content.

20 Bucks! That seems like a really good deal....though the mention of "8 reversible tracks" is what gets me. Does that mean their are only 8 tracks in the game, period?
Maybe that's a dumb question. Still, that explains the low low price of the game. Still, big ups to Sony for pushing the "release new, full games over PSN."

You know, maybe the racing is like a metaphor for life, you know? There's jumps and sometimes you hit a wall 'cause you didn't twist the controller right and, uh. What?

Pass the Hemp Milk, amigo.

can't wait to try out zone mode!  $20 for all of these sound awesome to me.  In fact sounds better than another racing title that came with one more track, no split screen, no custom soundtracks, etc (Motorstorm). and cost a full $60.
