Hey! Look at me! I'm a Ghostbuster!
Hey! Look at me! I'm a Ghostbuster!
When Sony announced that it had picked up publishing rights for Ghostbusters: The Video Game for Europe and Australia, making the game a PlayStation 3 exclusive for at least a few months, it was kind of a bummer. Atari, it would seem, is sympathetic to the plight of those who got the raw end of that bargain--namely, anyone who loves bustin' ghosts but doesn't own a PS3--as Destructoid is reporting that Atari has confirmed that the North American version of Ghostbusters for the Xbox 360 will be region-free. This means that, other than paying the premium usually associated with importing games from other regions, there's nothing else stopping you from playing that US game in your European or Australian Xbox 360. Though, it is my understanding that games in the EU and AUS cost roughly the same as a large trash bag full of cocaine, so you might actually save some money getting your import on. It would seem that Wii owners are still out of luck, though the real loser now is whoever gets stuck holding the Ghostbusters publishing rights for Xbox 360 in Europe and Australia later this year.

Weird. But at least Atari's still letting Europeans play the Xbox 360 version despite no longer having a presence in the region.

Dude, a large RUBBISH bag of cocaine, games over here cost as much as a large RUBBISH bag. No, no matter how you say it it doesn't make it any better. =(

Yeah a new game over here (UK) can be about $80 depending on where you go, but I've got a PS3 so I won't have to inport a copy, which is nice. Does suck for 360 owners though, especially with the game getting pretty much universal good reviews.

What the hell, so they can just make games region free like that? that sucks, we don't get baseball games over here, don't care if you don't release them but at least make them region free

PRO TIP: Just remember when you are playing this game and somebody asks if you're a god, you say "YES!"

The few times I've imported in the past it's ended up costing me about the same as you'd normally pay for a game over here. I'll probably end up doing this so thanks for telling us it's possible!

Is it cheaper to import a large trash bag full of cocaine?

This is a pretty devious move by Atari. They've seen the squirrely publishing situation in europe and are trying to make money out of it. I'm not complaining though, it's fantastic news.

Sony is going to be "....wait....WHAT, well bum!" but to us normal people this is good news.

A new game here in Denmark cost around the equivalent to 90 usd. Of course minimal wages here are seldom below 16 usd equivalent, but we also have high taxation and 25% value added tax.

Importing from the states is a great and cheaper alternative...BUT If the package is intercepted by the customs the total price could well end up around the equivalent of 120 usd. So it is a gamble.

The game on 360 is £30 ($50) on playasia thats actually cheaper than getting it on ps3 in the uk, playasia cant sell ps3 games to europe becuase sony threated to sue them no problem for 360 users though

Although its worth adding the averge review score right now is 75% so i may not bother

Congratulations you Europeans! You can play it early after all. This is a very sneaky move by Atari hehe.

This is good news for our friends in Europe and Australia that got sucker punched by Sony.

Dumb news. For those of us actually living in Europe(I live in Norway) and import stuff from the states early, know that about 70% of the games with NTSC coding in the US are region free to Europe. There are really just som few exceptions like GTA IV (only one I could think of right now) that dosent work on a European console. Anyone in doubt use the PlayAsia.com list of region free games..

...ignorant Americans...

A game costs about 1 gram of cocaine over here.

Brilliant move by Atari and Microsoft, in my opinion.

It is cool and almost shady that they straight up tell everybody this.
