Blizzard has opened up the opt-in process for the upcoming beta for StarCraft II. This manifests itself as a new section in the Battle.net account profile pages called "Beta Profile Settings." In this section you'll download an application that takes some hardware readings, uploads that profile back to Blizzard, and flags you as the type of person who wouldn't mind playing StarCraft II before it comes out.

Of course, there's no guarantee that you'll be selected to participate, and there's no hard start date for the beta. But Blizzard's posted up a FAQ on the process that you should probably read. Especially this part about needing to own games before being able to sign up:
In order for a Battle.net account to be able to opt in to upcoming beta tests, you must have at least one Blizzard Entertainment game that you own attached to the account. Please note that the World of Warcraft trial edition does not count toward this requirement.

But I don't wanna!

Totally signing up for this. I knew my account would be worth more someday.

Link? :P
PureRokon May 6, 2009 at 11:24 a.m.
They have it on their main page at Blizzard.com. You can click this link and it should let you sign up.

I do have a battle net account and everything, owning stuff like Diablo 2, but any battle net page tells me "forbidden" now. Either it's getting hammered, or they're region locking it for this beta test or something...
NoXiouson May 6, 2009 at 11:35 a.m.

I think the Battle.Net site is regional nowadays. My mate told me about this about a month ago, and we just kept on getting 403 errors on ANY and ALL B.Net sites.

EDIT: Oeh! I just did a quick Google-search, since I'm acking to get into the beta now. And for us europeans -> http://eu.battle.net

Cronoon May 6, 2009 at 11:36 a.m.
Yay!  Signed and sent.
CL60on May 6, 2009 at 11:37 a.m.
badass!
PlasmaBeam44on May 6, 2009 at 11:39 a.m.
That was easy to sign up for. They also sign you up for any future Diablo and Warcraft betas in the process.

Hopefully Blizzard lets up and notices what companies like Microsoft did (Halo 3 beta, Windows 7 RC) and allow tons of people to get into it. Otherwise, they'll just have a bunch of people snagging it by other means with no way to help them improve on SC2.
Forcenon May 6, 2009 at 11:47 a.m.
I can't sign up because they wont migrate WoW accounts in europe yet.
Rockanomicson May 6, 2009 at 11:59 a.m.
Blah it's down already
Peewion May 6, 2009 at 12:04 p.m.
Note that if you're in Europe, you need to go to http://eu.battle.net/
CallMeRottenon May 6, 2009 at 12:48 p.m.
Quit dicking around Blizzard and hurry the fuck up with your games you silly silly people.
MordeaniisChaoson May 6, 2009 at 12:48 p.m.
God DAMNIT! I want to download the thing NAO =(

Blizzard, you should fix it for me... I wants it soooo bad..
RHCPfan24on May 6, 2009 at 12:59 p.m.
Sweet. I may try to sign up for this thing.
TehBuLLon May 6, 2009 at 1:08 p.m.
just another opportunity for spammers to send u hacked links to betas that steal your shit.
JoelTGMon May 6, 2009 at 1:21 p.m.
How come it says there's a problem when I try to send the info.

edit:  finally, it worked.  nice.
Karmumon May 6, 2009 at 1:32 p.m.
Screwed if you don't like, have a CD key first. Since it says you have to have added a game before you can be apart of the BETA settings.

Edit - Not a big deal, since I plan on buying the Diablo Battle Chest soon.
sloppyjoeon May 6, 2009 at 1:33 p.m.
FYI for anyone with troubles.  I had to use IE to get the downloader thing to work... firefox led be to an "oops" page.

War3 and D2 games added fine, but my starcraft cd key isn't accepted "too many attempts"
