Expansion needs more Brucie.
Expansion needs more Brucie.
IGN UK went and got a quick comment out of Microsoft over in Leipzig that, yes, the downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV will indeed be out this year. In "autumn," precisely, which I believe is better known as "fall." Wait, when is the equinox again? Let me pull out my trusty Google here...

Apparently fall starts on September 23. Hey, that's soon. That's next month!

What surprises me is Game|Life's speculation that this Microsoft exclusive is for-a-limited-time-only and that the expansion, or new episode, or whatever the hell it is will eventually hit the PS3 as well. I'm sure Rockstar loves money as much as anyone, and releasing on multiple platforms is obviously the way of things these days, but I was under the impression Microsoft had sufficiently bought off Take Two to make this a permanent 360-only bonus. Then again, you might have said the same thing about BioShock last year, and look how that's turning out.

I'm really curious to see how much work Rockstar puts into this thing. What do you expect out of a GTA4 downloadable content package? New characters, missions? Voiceovers? A whole new Liberty City borough? And how much would you pay for it?

If it's new missions/boroughs, I would be willing to pay upwards of 1600 space bucks for it. It must be a bummer for Microsoft that this content isn't exclusive to them, though.

I think Rockstar has enough respect for their brand and fans expectations that they are taking this thing seriously and that it hopefully will be worth the money. Also, I'm sure Microsoft is paying them LOADS and pressing them for content!

If its new missions that also continue the story in some way, I'd be willing to pay about 1200-1600 points for it.

Umm it would be nice if tehy add planes, or all the awesome crazy things that were missing from the game in the first place, and there was also specualtion of a new island but I'm guessing thats pretty unprobable

I don't know.  I'm kind of burned out on GTA IV.  For me to pick this up, they'd have to setup a scenario such as an earthquake rocking Liberty City, or maybe a UFO blasting Algonquin to oblivion.  Or maybe a killer virus breaks out and you have to kill everyone who's infected or some nonsense.  Fine, just more poses in the strip clubs.

I honestly felt pretty disappointed by the last section of GTA 4.   To me the highlight was the middle of the game, especially the McReary missions.  The mission givers in the end of the game were all rather bland characters, with uninteresting goal, and an unfullfilling ending.   So I'm not sure if more story would actually interest me.  Certainly not at 1200-1600 points.  But there isn't really anything else they could add that would be better.

What I would much rather get is an update letting me replay missions I've already beaten.  Jumping through the storyline and replaying stuff that I really enjoyed, without messing with crappy missions, would really up my enjoyment.  Of course, I wouldn't pay for something like that, but it'd be a nice feature.

I"ve heard rumors that you play as some biker and his story is about 3 hours long. I heard that from some reliable source, I just can't remember what or who.

If it's merely new missions meant to tie up loose ends (ahemBulgarinahem) without augmenting the sandbox in any way, I'd be wary of the price point that gets put on this DLC.  Granted, I have to wonder about the development brain trust at R* and how they must feel being made by marketers to muster the same effort shown in the original production process for additional missions.  I mean, I'm sure they knew this was coming, but at this stage, I'm wondering if they would prefer to be ramping up preliminary work on the NEXT game in this cycle, as opposed to going back to the last one.

Less indoor/warehouse shootouts and more chase & assassination missions, please.

I assume it will be more missions, possibly even a new area. I'd pay up to 1600 points for it.

I am honestly not expecting anything more than missions, characters, and maybe some new cars or something. I would pay like 10-15 depending on how much content is in it.

I would pay exactly 0 MS points.  Unless it added a "make the game fun" mode.  Then I'd pay 800 MS points.
