Still alive!
Still alive!
Ready for some new Halo 3 multiplayer maps? If you said "yes," Bungie has got you covered. New descriptions and media are out for the contents of the "Mythic" map pack which is due on Xbox Live Marketplace March 3 here in America (and a few days earlier in Asia and Europe).

Don't forget, you can also snag Mythic if you pony up the $79.99 for the sprawling Halo Wars Collector's Edition. Doesn't look like you'll get the maps any earlier, but at least you won't have to pay for 'em.

As much as I enjoyed Halo 3--which I think is by far the best of the series--I feel like the game has just about run its course. I'm ready for Bungie to flip the Halo script, which is luckily what they're doing with ODST later in the year. But if you're still jamming on some Team Slayer and whatnot, you'll probably be down for this pack.

Here's what the Microsoft press release has to say about the new maps.

Sandbox combines large-scale vehicular combat with a limitless amount of Forge customization. Boasting a tiered, open-world layout, “Halo 3” players will be able to build their own unique game experiences using the Forge map editor. Sandbox is a map unlike any Bungie has ever created.

Assembly is set in the heart of a Covenant Scarab manufacturing facility. With two identical bases on either side of this medium-sized map, it’s a perfect environment for both Slayer and objective games like Capture the Flag and Assault.

Orbital, a small asymmetrical map, is set in the docking station of the Quito Space Tether. One-sided games like One Flag, and One Bomb are sure to become quick fan-favorites, but the Slayer faithful will also find plenty of action on this battleground.

Actually, Sandbox sounds pretty neat. If people can use it to come up with more unique ideas like Rocket Race, I may have to re-up. Rocket Race is stupid fun.

Oh yeah, the screens. Can you match the map name to the screenshot? If you get all three correct, you win a cookie.*

*Cookies will not be provided. But while we're on the subject, what's your favorite kind? I like chocolate-chocolate chip. That's double the chocolate-to-cookie ratio!

Looks ok. I will pay no more than 800paints for it, don't pull of the 1600 paint bullshit.

I just don't think I can play any more Halo 3. It sucks cause I had a lot of fun with that game. I feel almost nastalgic right now.

And I might buy this pack cause the achievements are stupid easy. But I'll probably get banned for boosting.

assembly, orbital, and sandbox.

i want my cookie nao. The pena\lty for failure is death

On the subject i don't even have the legendary maps yet (swat and snipers are boring anyway) so buying an excessively expensive halo wars for the mythic ones is not high on my priorities. it's not the 600 points it's having to buy 0points ofr something that i will never have use for the remainder

Besides all the awesome maps are the orignial ones anyway ;)

"Ready for some new Halo 3 multiplayer maps?"

Uh, not really. By now, I don't know if I care that much. I might just buy the Halo Wars LE which will get me a few of these.

The Halo Wars LE edition BS that Microsoft pulled has annoyed many,
but I look forward to the date they show up on Marketplace and be mine.

Precious Assembly, I await your sexy arrival.

Also: chocolate chip (with hazelnut).
