Sega just dropped a new trailer for
Sonic Unleashed featuring a previously unseen level, Adabat. The original
Sonic Adventure was the last
Sonic game I put any time into, and this trailer reminds me of the first level from that game, so I'm tentatively interested. Remember that level? That was basically the big
Dreamcast showpiece sequence, the thing you showed people when you wanted them to understand why the DC was way better than their lousy PlayStation or Nintendo 64. Especially that part where the killer whale jumped out of the water and busted up the boardwalk as you were running on it. Remember that? That was awesome.
The Sonic series' pedigree ain't exactly rosy of late, but at least I can say that I'd
like a new Sonic game to be good. Anyhoo, the trailer!
UPDATE: There's a werehog in this trailer too. Say it with me. WEREHOG!

At first glance, it doesn't seem like Sonic Unleashed will be a horrible game.

I mean, in terms of gameplay, there wasn't much in the original Sonic games. Just press jump every once in a while. I don't know if something that simple can hold up in a world where games are now so complex.

That doesn't mean it'll suck. Just something that might be worth looking at. I'm pretty sure we wont have another Sonic 06 on our hands.
Besides, new ideas like the werehog CAN work so long as a) the core gameplay is intact, in other words, the daytime stages, which look pretty solid, and the 2.5D is briliant, and b) the new ideas are implemented well without feeling tacked on. We dont know much about how the werehog plays into the story, nor if it's gonna be worth it throughout the entire game. Just one thing isn't gonna make this game abysmal. Maybe a little repetive.
I just hope for the best of things.
