Here's This Year's New Star Wars Game

LucasArts and Krome Studios are popping out a new game based on the Clone Wars animated series this September.

Following the rampant success of last year's The Force Unleashed, LucasArts and Krome Studios have announced they're working on a Star Wars new action game for this September, The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes. The game is clearly using the aesthetic, characters, and voice work of the Clone Wars animated movie and TV series, and it's unsurprisingly coming out on pretty much every commercially viable platform in existence.

Here's a trailer!

Some more details, via the PR-mode LucasArts pitch.

...players can fight as their favorite Jedi and clone troopers from the preeminent animated television series – from familiar faces like Anakin Skywalker to new heroes like Clone Captain Rex. A brand-new storyline, which bridges the gap between season one and two, takes the player on a multi-faceted adventure to stop a mysterious techno assassin’s destructive plot. Built around two-player cooperative action, the accessible controls and family-friendly gameplay bring Star Wars fans across generations together like never before to fight the evil Separatists and restore peace to the galaxy.
  • Experience an all-new and exciting Clone Wars storyline that bridges the gap between season one and two of the TV series as you learn more about the mysterious bounty hunter Cad Bane and hunt down the all-new Skakoan super villain Kul Teska
  • Play as your favorite Jedi heroes including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, Mace Windu, and Kit Fisto
  • Slice and dice your way through Separatist droids with your lightsaber and Force powers and use your agility to perform amazing leaps and navigate levels filled with interactivity
  • Turn your enemies into weapons as you commandeer droids and use their unique abilities to blast enemies and solve puzzles as a Jedi
  • Be part of an elite clone trooper squad with unique gameplay that puts firepower at your fingertips. Blast droids and unleash devastation with heavy weapons like rocket launchers and thermal detonators as Commander Cody, Captain Rex and all of your favorite clone troopers Compete against a friend with in-level challenges for rewards and points to be spent to upgrade your character and unlock bonus items

Here's what the Xbox 360 version will look like.

Aaaand some shots of the Wii game.

Looks a bit kid-focused to me, compared to the darker and more technical, God of War-like action in The Force Unleashed. What's your take?

gingertastic_10on May 11, 2009 at 12:14 p.m.

eh star wars is ok, i do like the list of characters you get to play as though

For me, this could be a decent game or a really bad one.  I really liked TFU but this one may be a little to kiddie for me.  Oh and first.

I like The Clone Wars show, so I could be interested in this. But depends on the gameplay, kinda hard to tell what it will be like in that trailer.
Video_Game_Kingon May 11, 2009 at 12:15 p.m.
Oh no, just....no. I don't want any more of this crap! Why not just remake the Jedi Academy games with Wii controls? Eh? EH?
CL60on May 11, 2009 at 12:15 p.m.
Looks fairly average to me.
JoelTGMon May 11, 2009 at 12:16 p.m.
omg i will buy this game for every console i cant wait!  On second thought, no thanks it looks like more of the same star wars garbage.

They just keep butchering my childhood memories of star wars...bastards
darkspirit138on May 11, 2009 at 12:28 p.m.
they killed it with Yoda narrating.

Techno assassin...
It looks like it could be good.  Maybe.

Putting aside the whole Clone Wars animated Star Wars trash, I think this could be a relativley fun action adventure star wars game. My hope are sort of up!
Atomic_Tangerineon May 11, 2009 at 12:38 p.m.
I think they forgot why The Force Unleashed was such a success.  It took a step back and was more about the original movies, the stuff the fans really liked.  Like the writing was actually *gasp sorta good!  I doubt that will be the case with this one.
pause422on May 11, 2009 at 12:40 p.m.
Well they've already lost my complete interest.
RHCPfan24on May 11, 2009 at 12:41 p.m.
I love Star Wars, but I say "NO" to this. Clone Wars has always been the weak point in the series, and this looks like a kids game, not an action one. Where's my Battlefront 3?!
Reversefaceon May 11, 2009 at 12:46 p.m.
I like the unrealistic style, looks cool.

jesus christ!!! When are they going to give up on the Star Wars franchise!! They have already beaten it to death!!!
TheKidNixonon May 11, 2009 at 12:47 p.m.
You know, I wasn't probably going to buy any Star Wars game they came out with, but this is probably a smart move. No matter what older fans might think, Clone Wars is kind of a big deal and the game at least looks sharp, even if its play style doesn't look that far removed from the LEGO Star Wars game from the few short clips in that trailer.

Probably a smart business decision, catering to their new, younger fan base.
Kbm600on May 11, 2009 at 12:50 p.m.
I need to get the fuck away from the Clone Wars franchise. People DO still care about the original trilogy, do they  not realize that?
Vigorousjammeron May 11, 2009 at 12:52 p.m.
yeah, I agree... way too kid-focused...
