Hey, Turn On Your PlayStation 3

All clear, game on.

And just like that, it was over. When we crossed 00:00 GMT, PlayStation 3s previously impacted by the crazy trophy install issues and bad clock setting and all that other junk started clearing up. PlayStation 3 hardware began returning to normal. And all was apparently right with the world (unless you're following this developing Infinity Ward story that Patrick Klepek's talking about on G4, which sounds kind of intense).

Uh... where was I. Oh, right. Here's Sony's statement about the situation:

We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.

If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet.

I'd guess that someone's tearing through whatever internal bit of code caused this to happen and is making sure it won't happen again. Maybe we'll get another firmware update out of all this! Woo!

As a software tester, I am both palming my face and laughing my ass off at this.  I can't believe Sony actually let something related to the leap year date rollover actually make it through testing.  This really doesn't shine a good light on their QA process.

You'd have thought it was the end of Sony judging by some people's comments around the internet.

Can't wait for 2012, maybe all PS3s will go sentient and become the embodiment of Skynet. Sony dodged a bullet today by stopping it somehow, but it hasn't been defeated. The legion is licking it's wounds... looking for another chance.

And perhaps Activision will finally decide that they are in the business of selling war. Maybe taking the fun out of war in the process. And somehow the current incident with IW is the first step in their master plan.

But seriously, what the hell is going on over at IW?

Yeah they didn't think too far ahead for this did they? It's not as if it was an unpredictable ten year event they couldn't have seen coming while looking at the calender for the past three years.

People over dramatize shit like this. Did any of you catch what IGN was saying? They acted like the ps3 was finished because of one stupid ass hiccup. It was really a simple problem. Did people forget live was down like a week at one point and now Sony gets bashed for being screwed up somethin like a total of 12 hours? I think some people need to shut thier systems off and go outside for a day or so anyway if this was such a big deal to them. Not to mention certain other sites need to use thier brains a bit more. I think this is why I find myself here more than at the others.
