Hey! You! Make A LittleBigPlanet Challenge Level!

MediaMolecule so wants you to contribute that they've made a series of tutorial videos aimed at demystifying the level-creation process.

If you're the noncommittal sort of LittleBigPlanet fan I am, you've only dug into the included story levels on a hunt for more Sack-person accoutrement, and not dabbled in the wide, scary world of level creation.

MediaMolecule would like you to change that. They're now running a tutorial video over at their official blog, in which several of the team members give you a lengthy tutorial on how to develop your own LBP challenge level. Those are the quickie action stages that spawn off of the regular levels when you find the hidden keys. They're super short and seem to only let you rack up a high score. I've never figured out what they were for, mainly because I can't pick up a new fuzzy winter hat or oversize novelty glasses for my Sack while I'm playing them.

Anyhow, we've swaddled their nice little video in the Official Giant Bomb FancyPlayer for your viewing pleasure. I'm told you can expect more of these videos in the future offering other DIY tips.

Now go forth, children, and create.

I really want to get this game. I just need a PS3 first.

First comment btw!

That was pretty helpful. Now all I need to do is turn on LBP again.

Very cool thanks for the heads up Brad much appreciated

Man, I never knew LBP's level creation tools were so complicated. It just makes me want to dive in and fiddle with sliders and options for hours.... I really have a problem. Oh well, I'm safe so long as I don't own a PS3.

Now fo forth and create... so i can play your level
Blackout62on Jan. 23, 2009 at 9:24 p.m.
Yeah, but every time I try something new I have to go through a tutorial and then I can't get enough of Stephen Fry's joyous voice and need to watch Blackadder.

No subtitles, MM? For shame. Now I can't understand what the hell they're talking about. Good job alienating me, MM, esp. after having subtitles on your tutorials and most of the game's information needing cutscenes.

This was actually really cool. I'm not the best at making any kind of level, but this gave me some idea's I've never even thought of before.  You guys still need to post the giantbomb level on the site, it's so awesome!
Alaska_Gameron Jan. 23, 2009 at 10:54 p.m.
Awesome. I feel more inspired now, I've never actually made a level that I've put up online, but I've always wanted to. Really great tips, MM.

This makes me want to play LBP now.
DiGiTaL_SiNon Jan. 23, 2009 at 11:09 p.m.
When are you guys gonna play the level that guy made for the site and show it to us?
bekernon Jan. 23, 2009 at 11:36 p.m.
How in the world did people figure this stuff out before this video.. even after watching the video I'm still confused on how they did some stuff. I'd rather they just makes things less complicated in the first place so dumb people like me don't need videos like this to figure it out. Like, for the first thing they showed where the entrance moves with a wobble bolt, why does there need to be like 3 extra switches just to make sure it only wobbles once? Why don't they just put an option in the wobble bolt's tweak menu to set how many times it goes back and forth?
McQuinnon Jan. 24, 2009 at 12:15 a.m.
Wow that was pretty helpful.  I had a much more complicated way to make on way switches, thanks for showing this.

that Giantbomb level is a snore-fest in Boredom town. maybe if i knew the story behind the whole Gianbomb movement it'd be more entertaining. i thought the Jeff dude got fired from Gamespot over a Kane and Lynch review and Ryan and Brad left with him because they're gay for Jeff, then outta boredom they made Giantbomb. apparently there's more to it.

also, on the Bombcast, Ryan said that Giantbomb level is hard to get to. just go to Search, then Text, then type in "Giantbomb". nothin is hard to get to in that game.

that one Sony dude during CES said you could play all the online levels in Little Big Planet 24/7 and it would still take you two years. holy scat.
