Giant Bomb Video Game News

Video Game News, Stories and Updates for the PS3, XBOX 360, PC, PSP, Wii, and DS

Added by Ryan Davis on Oct. 28, 2008

If you didn't already catch the "news," MTV has launched MTV Music, a site dedicated to archiving a large number of the music videos that the channel has aired. Bellyaching about the total absence of music videos from MTV has been the trite thing to do for a good 15 years now, though it seems oddly ironic that the original focus of MTV would find a new home on the internet. If you're of a certain age, you've probably spent countless hours watching these little two-and-a-half minute narratives/fashion shows/advertisements, and there's as much nostalgic value in revisiting the video for Money For Nothing as popping in a copy of Mega Man 2, if not more so.

To create even the thinnest and most tenuous of threads to video games here, I've gone ahead and embedded a few of the music videos that, along with crummy stock footage, would go on to form the basis for the Sega CD Make My Video games. Enjoy!

I just got home from work. This has nothing to do with this article.

Congratulations, MTV, on upgrading your crappy flash player. I don't know when you did it, but this one is actually pretty sleek.

As much as I dislike being "of a certain age," this is awesome. First thing on the front page, the Talking Heads. God this is going to be a time sink. Thanks Ryan!

This is something I probably could have used, but it doesn't work outside of the US. I never quite got that, but I am sure it really is legal BS.

80's Lore

Well, I like C+C, but it's pretty sad that the pretty girl doesn't even really sing for the band (it was Martha Wash) :)

We thought/joked the line in the third video was "heavy set"

Man, the definition on these videos is sharper on my little screen than it was when I originally saw them :)

What a shame - us UK brethren can't see the videos -  ah well.

Works fine in Sweden.

I'll side with MTV on this one.  Why air music videos on TV if you can find any of them at any time on YouTube?

As a person who hates 99% of the music videos in the world, this site could be really beneficial to me. I can go there and just dig up the 10-20 videos I can stomach and not have to sit through...whatever the hell is on MTV nowadays. I also have to agree with skrutop. It's just too easy to find videos online now for TV stations to back them. Good find, Ryan.

Ha! I didn't know MTV was doing this.  I think I'm going to look up some KLF and Digital Underground now and remember those awkward 7th grade house parties where everyone drank fruit punch and the girls and boys didn't talk to eachother.

Speaking of video games, I once had a stale circus peanut.  It was gross.

Remember when your computer would boot up and play the Earth People video?

I find it hilarious that the top rated video and the 3rd most watched video is already "Never Gonna Give You Up". Quick, everyone watch it like 100 times!

This is actually pretty cool. Thought it completely defeats the purpose of the channel even exists. And you're right. This has nothing to do with video games.
