Here's the original. You know, in case you don't remember it.
Here's the original. You know, in case you don't remember it.
Remember how EA put out a press release back in February claiming that it was working with Starbreeze--the Chronicles of Riddick people--on reinventing a "classic EA franchise?"

At the time they called the EA Partners release "Project RedLime" and said it would be available for PS3, 360, and PC. I think this was right around the same time that John Riccitello name-dropped Road Rash a few times, leading some to speculate that this was what the game would end up being.

But maybe not. CVG has a report from a sneaky secret tipster that claims that Starbreeze has been working on a revival of Syndicate, a classic PC game developed by Bullfrog back in the early '90s where you took control of a bunch of drugged-up future agents and made them haul ass around a futuristic city to mow down opposing agents. You controlled the drug levels in their bodies, letting you jack them up to do better in fights, but an over-reliance on the dope made them build up a tolerance and get weak.

CVG's story quite literally takes the words out of my mouth on the original Syndicate: "It was awesome."

Personally, I'd be very interested to see what Starbreeze with do with Syndicate. CVG's story starts and stops with a reliance on an anonymous source, so I guess we shouldn't get too excited, but... yeah... totally filled with excitement and hope over here.

Syndicate was amazing back in the day.
Even though I really want to see that series revived, I'm worried to see what they'll do to it (make it an FPS? :O )

OMG Yes please - this game has been left untouched whilst so many failure franchises have been updated for us to scowl at
Spend your dollars on making this a reality!

Syndicate is one of my favorite childhood games!  Please bring it back, and do it justice.  This would rock my world if it turned out to be true.

Syndicate was most definitely amazing.  It was one of the few non-multiplayer PC games I played over and over again.  It was all about the Persuad-a-tron and the mini gun.  So much fun gathering an army of civilians and opposing agents and just cause mass destruction, blowing up cop cars within 2 seconds of targeting them.

Though it's not so much an EA classic as a Peter Molyneux classic.  They might own the IP, but it's not like the original was an in-house EA effort.

Definitely mixed feelings about a new one coming out, that'll be developed by a studio that doesn't have a trace of the original team.  If it's a FPS, it will only be Syndicate in name and setting.  I think an open world game would be the best fit as far as the original gameplay goes.  The mechanics and kewl shit from the original could be applied very nicely (I mean, the original definitely has a prot-open world/GTA game feel to it in retrospect) to the open world format.

I want to have hope, but I feel it'll just be a 4 player co-op shooter like gears or something. Not that I don't like gears, but... sigh....

Dungeon Keeper anyone? Heck, I'll settle for magic carpet

Syndicate is one of the few awesome cyberpunk games and it's very heavy cyberpunk feel is just, awesome. I love it. And Starbreeze is an awesome developer, just gimme Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and a new Syndicate and I'm happy for years to come!

Syndicate was really something special back in the day, and the destruction in Syndicate Wars just made my jaw drop, every single time.

It would be the sweetest thing to have a new Syndicate ... if it plays like the original. It's one of my favourite games of all time...
1.) get the best brains
2.) get the Persuadertron
3.) run around the city full speed and convert EVERYONE to your will.
4.) profit (no really!)

I would completely go for this. I have been thinking about it for years. I only got to play the original for a couple hours, but it's one of those games that always stuck in my head and I'd hoped I'd see again.

Ha! I called it in favor of Syndicate last time this news hit the surface! I am excited and nervous about where Starbreeze will take the genre. We haven't had a proper RTS/FPS hybrid yet, though it has been attempted many times. Starbreeze does "dark" really well, and Syndicate is very dark universe. Great match!

Though it sucks that we now know this isn't a Road Rash revival.

Oh man, I would be stoked to have a new Syndicate and see what Starbreeze would do with it.
