LIVE BLOG: Ubisoft

Oh man TOM CLANCY!

6:53 PM
Trailer is over. No gameplay. This thing is over. My thoughts? Easily the worst of the conferences. Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed look rad but it was somewhat dampened by the first having already been shown in the MS conference. Way too little games shown in this one.

6:52 PM
I know it's a CG trailer and all, but this looks pretty fun and stylized.

6:51 PM
I'm pretty pumped for the setting of this one. I like the crusades and all, but give me some pomp! Looks to be all CG so far, maybe we'll get some gameplay.

6:51 PM
We're closing in on 2 hours. Finally getting the Assassins Creed 2 trailer.

6:50 PM
"Fatest new selling IP ever". 8 million units sold for the original.

6:49 PM
There's now some talk about a game codenamed "Eden". That's it, no more info. Assassin's Creed 2 is next.

6:48 PM
No More Heroes 2 is being talked about next. The trailer is "racy nice". Is that waht he said?

6:47 PM
A frenchman yelling "COWABUNGA" pretty much silenced the crowd. Wow. Did I just see that? Where's Reggie.

6:47 PM
Trailer for TMNT being shown. Looks like a full lineup of Wii based kids games. Ubi really must need to get a point across to someone. Graphic Design nerd in me called out the "Adventure" font in this trailer.

6:45 PM
This conference needs a streaker!

6:43 PM
TMNT being talked about next. Laurent Detoc is up.

6:40 PM
Rabbids is over. Let's hope we've got something good next.

6:38 PM
I think I'm finally starting to lose it. I'm staring to mistype the timestamps. I don't have much more to say on Rabbids. This is a long demo for a game I'd rather not see a long demo for.

6:37 PM
Looks like Rabbids is essentially a collection of a whole lot of minigames. It looks fun but nothing different from the usual assortment of party games. It's just got a bit more humor to it.

6:36 PM
Rabbids is definitely tailored to kids but is has some goofy humor to it that parents should enjoy.

6:35 PM
I wonder what the boys will think about all this stuff in tonight's wrap-ups.

6:33 PM
Tweet from Brad "Come on Ubi, we know tweenz buy gamez. Please show Assassin's now."

6:32 PM
Ah Rabbids. They're building a pile of shopping carts to get to the moon.

6:32 PM
OK, we've got rabbits on stage. "This is weird" says coonce.

6:30 PM
For those talking to me about the EA girl I totally meant that as a compliment. She's someone I'd actually date. She was a total cutey.

6:26 PM
Ubi presents the first camera enable fitness game. It's called your shape. It's a game that comes with a camera. Weird. Wouldn't Natal be good for this. Ah, it's a Wii game. Well that makes sense. Fitness does huge on the Wii.

6:25 PM
Seriously, lets see you pull some jumping jacks in those heels! Intense!

6:24 PM
Don't take this the wrong way but I liked that the EA girl had some pounds on her. She looked like a real woman and someone who was actually enthusiastic about her wares. This girl isn't even wearing fitness clothing? WTF?

6:23 PM
Felecia Williams is out to talk about using cameras in games. Looks like every company has their hot lady fitness expert.

6:22 PM
"Fastest growing Genre is Fitness". You can EA really are trying to push this stuff.

6:21 PM
More on the "Three Is"

6:20 PM
I quoted that guy so much because it's definitely the most salesy lingo we've heard all day. Ubi is definitely talking to their shareholders here. Not that I blame them, this is a tough time and these games sell.

6:19 PM
Is it me or is the word "tween" offensive.

6:18 PM
"Make the best games". "Give these gamers the best 2.0 experience". "Integration, Interconnectivity and Innovation."

6:17 PM
"Tween brands are some of the biggest in the industry."

6:16 PM
Wow, Tony's facial hair is the most European of the bunch. And he's a yank!

6:15 PM
I love the tabletop action on that game. They didn't even show the badass zoom effects. Check out gamepage for a couple more trailers on it. Now we're on to casual games and Tony Key.

6:14 PM
Dude, RUSE looks so awesome. So excited for this game.

6:12 PM
Splinter Cell is over. On to the next trailer.

6:08 PM
Valid point from Milkman "To be fair, this game looks awesome". I have to agree even if this demo is a bit disappointing the second time around.

6:07 PM
Ok, same demo, but not going through it the same way. Well, not exactly the same way. At least there's that.

6:06 PM
Well, whatever. Let's comment on what we've got. I still think this game looks pretty badass. It's got a great look and the fighting looks pretty fun.

6:05 PM
This is the same demo from this morning at the MS conference.

6:04 PM
Now we've got a real time demo going on. Or they're talking about the demo.

6:03 PM
Total SNAFU here. Hopefully they'll follow it up with some gampeplay.

6:02 PM
Remember, we've already got a SC trailer from this morning on the site. Waiti, is this the SAME trailer. Oh man.

6:01 PM
More blazers with jeans. At least these guys looks sharp.

5:59 PM
Looks like we got some Splinter Cell stuff coming.

5:57 PM
Remember, they still have Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell to show. They could come back from this... kinda.

5:56 PM
This doesn't look too bad. Reminds me of the bigs series. Is this gameplay?

5:55 PM
We've got the Academy of Champions trailer running now. It looks fantastical. Kind of if Harry Potter meets Winning Eleven.

5:54 PM
Well folks. I hate to be really negative against a great company, but we're coming up on an hour and so far we've seen Red Steel 2 and Shaun White Snowboarding. I don't think you need me to comment on this one.

5:53 PM
Pele is continuing to issue general pleasantries in Portuguese. Think he can beat James Cameron's running time?

5:53 PM
Pele is trying to make the best of it, but he's kind of babbling non-sense. He's not talking through another semi-hot translator.

5:52 PM
Pele's game is Academy of Champions. Right now all we have is an Avatar. Well shit.... this is the worst conference I've seen. It's getting awkward.

5:50 PM
Poor Talk Soup guy. With that green screen behind him I really want him to break out into some satire. Oh, look it's Pele.

5:49 PM
On to soccer. Bad jokes and more talking to be had.

5:48 PM
Trailer for new Shaun White Snowboarding game.

5:47 PM
"Emersiveness? They wrote that word" Ouch.

5:46 PM
Red Steel 2 will be bundled with the Wii Motion Plus.

5:45 PM
Comment from Andy upstairs. "This looks as terribad as the last game". Dunno. It all depends on the controls.

5:44 PM
OK, that slow-mo stuff was pretty fun.

5:42 PM
Looks like there's a lock on system in place here. "Sort of like a first-person brawler". This trailer is kinda weird without music though.

5:40 PM
I'm really curious how much the Wii Motion Plus stuff improves gameplay. Be a real battle to see it up against Natal.

5:38 PM
The Red Steel guy is being dragged along by a motorcycle. Actually looks kind of cool. I still love the look of this game. I just hope they can make the controls a little better.

5:37 PM
Btw, whoever sent in the Root Beer to the office. Many Thanks. It is quite tasty. Looks like we're gonna see some live footage of Red Steel 2 now.

5:36 PM
Jason Vanderberg is out with an awesome cane to talk about Red Steel 2. A man with a cane is a beautiful thing. You think it's a style choice?

5:35 PM
Red Steel looks like the prettiest Wii game I've seen. Digging the western action. Just not this weird trailer within a trailer stuff.

5:34 PM
Red Steel 2 Trailer. Alright, finally.

5:33 PM
Ubi... come on, you got some stuff to show. You're a good company. I'm rooting for a comeback.

5:32 PM
Dude! He just walked off and THEY DIDNT SHOW ONE THING FROM THE GAME. 15 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!

5:31 PM
OK, I'm kinda excited for a 3D game. Though that logo in the back is still taunting me.

5:30 PM
Avatar is going to be a 3D game?

5:28 PM
Getting a soda, move along, move along.

5:26 PM
Possibly the most wordy conference since the Meeting on the Mount.

5:26 PM
Is it possible we're gonna go 30 minutes without any game footage? Is this a first?

5:25 PM
While we're waiting, let's talk about how awesome The Abyss was. It's my favorite special effects movie. James is still talking about the cinema experience.

5:24 PM
...

5:22 PM
James. I love me some T2, even your script for Strange Days, but get on with it.

5:20 PM
Avatar takes place in Pandora. Again, more talking. Seriously, at least put some clips on in the back. All I've seen is logos in 20 minutes.

5:19 PM
James Cameron hasn't changed. He's still a goofy, fun-loving white dude. He's talking a bit about Avatar and CGI.

5:18 PM
James Cameron is on. Finally a dude who can talk the English at me.

5:17 PM
"Ubisoft is going to a full 360 games provider". Again pushing the Hollywood angle. This is pretty dry stuff.

5:16 PM
Yannis is showing off some Assassin's Creed stuff. Just barely though. This is way too long to go without some game footage.

5:15 PM
"Avatar is using ground-breaking technology".

5:14 PM
They are working with Lightstorm and James Cameron on Avatar. Promise details tomorrow. Why tomorrow? Isn't this YOUR press conference? Maybe Sony stuff?

5:13 PM
Ubi's conference seems to be focused more on the business then EA's presentation. They are very interested in talking about their "confluence" with Hollywood. Quick, drink everytime they mention Hollywood.

5:12 PM
We've got a new suit on stage. Yannis Mallet. His purple striped shirt is classy.

5:11 PM
Wii Motion Plus Red Steel 2.  Yves is talking up their past success.

5:10 PM
Ubisoft is really pumping up their work with Hollywood. Name dropping studios left and right.

5:09 PM
UPlay will be on Assassin's Creed. Let's you buy extra stuff for your game.

5:08 PM
"200 creators from the movie industry" working with Ubi. Is that a good thing?

5:07 PM
The very french Ubisoft CEO is talking up their world dominance.

5:06 PM
Might have helped if I didn't attach this story to 1AM. Then you could actually see it. Stupid Dave.

5:05 PM
Ubi working with a top level Hollywood director. Hmm...

5:04 PM
Chatting with Jeff, he promises some awesome footage later tonight. In the meantime it's you and me and the dude from Talk Soup.

5:03 PM
Dude, it's the Talk Soup guy! Nice choice ubi!

5:01 PM
Sorry I'm a bit late, hectic here.

Jimboon June 1, 2009 at 5:09 p.m.
Yes, Jade should present the whole thing, or really anybody that isn't french.
Puppyon June 1, 2009 at 5:10 p.m.
Meh...GameSpot's stream is absurdly slow. It's more like a trickle.
erinfizzon June 1, 2009 at 5:10 p.m.
Keep it up Dave! This will be fun to read when I get back from dinner.
