Giant Bomb Video Game News

Video Game News, Stories and Updates for the PS3, XBOX 360, PC, PSP, Wii, and DS

Added by Jeff Gerstmann on Sept. 26, 2008

Want good proof that your gaming skills have gone completely soft in this era of regenerating health and constant checkpoints? Look no further than Capcom's latest digital release, Mega Man 9. It's out now on the Wii and PS3, and Xbox 360 owners will be getting a chance to throw their controllers out a window next Wednesday.

I finished Mega Man, Mega Man 2, and Mega Man 3 before sort of losing interest in the original series, mostly because I always felt that Rush was a weak addition. Upon hearing that a lot of the charged-shot and sliding techniques of the later games were being removed in favor of a more pure experience, I was excited about Mega Man 9.

But after playing it for 45 minutes last night, I'm pretty sure I never want to play it ever again. Because I can't handle it. And I'm not afraid to admit that. Sometimes you have to know when to walk away.

Here's video proof of my inability to handle it. The video has cursing in it. So watch out for that.

If you're looking for some sort of assistance for Mega Man 9, Giant Bomb Friendly User of the Moment, sloppyjoe, put together this basic guide.

This website has cursing, so watch out for that.

Good to know they built it with the retro difficulty in mind.  I never could get past the lack of angle fire in Mega Man...

You know, I was laughing at this for the most part. But I felt your pain, Jeff. I really did. Let's all be real for a second, guys. We've all been there. I salute you, Jeff Gerstmann.

Spent four hours, FOUR HOURS on this with my ex-roommate and we were able to beat exactly two of the bosses...
This game is HARD. VERY hard. Within the next hour we were able to beat most of the bosses, finally discovering their weaknesses. But still! Even WITH their weaknesses...this game is HARD.

Jeff's anger is quite amusing, it reminds me of my own experiences with the original games, in which I would literally chew on my NES controller in boundless frustration.

I was 6, and Megaman 2 was DAMN HARD.

OK, reality check time. Can anyone tell me if any of this is actually happening? I've got a loose grip on reality after hearing about this upcoming 2D digitized fighting game.
