Video Game News, Stories and Updates for the PS3, XBOX 360, PC, PSP, Wii, and DS

Since today seems to be all about bringing you busted-up videos of games, take a look at the PC version of Mirror's Edge. If you get in there and edit some ini files, you can rig up a third-person, behind-the-back camera. Check it:

As you'll quickly notice, the animation on Faith is kind of half-finished. Also, apparently you can't actually look up or down when you're playing from this view. Still, even with all the unfinished stuff, the view looks pretty good to me.

If you want to give this a shot yourself, here's how to do it, as seen on the forums at On-Mirror's-Edge:

Go to "Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config\" open the file "TDInput" with notepad. Add this line to the "bindings" list:

Bindings=(Name="F4",Command="FreeFlightCamera",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

then press F4 a few times!

Smoooooth animation. I don't understand why anyone would want to play it this way....

Also; it isn't entirely that the animation is half-done, but rather done in a way that makes it look good and make sense from a first person perspective only.

The animation is flawless!!! Makes HL2 look like a horrible stick figure cartoon.

GOD I love the way she walks...

Cool, but, I still like the game better in first person. If it was third person, there really wouldn't be anything to help it stand out from other action adventures.

The game is meant to be first person. Just wondering WHY they would want to play it in something it isn't mean to be.

Yeht he problem isn't with the first person view because thats what I do actually like about the game and makes it feel more real. The problem with Mirror's Edge is the mechanics timing feels off and combat feel stiff and thats what they need to fix in the next games. I want the combat to feel like you're Jason Bourne in first person rather than a doll.

Marginally worse than Fallout 3's third-person view. Much funnier though.

come on jeff. quit going on about how much better mirrors edge would be if it was in third person. it being first person is the only thing special it has going for it and if you take that away it's just prince of persia in the future. it would be garbage.

Well it's nice for the people that would want it, but seriously?

The game would just be a basic TR/PoP derivative at that point.

The whole point of the game to me is the immersion of feeling like you are in that body and can do amazing things, and you get experience all of that from her eyes.

The whole "can't see your feet to know when to jump" could have been solved with a well designed audio cue system I would think.
Like a tone that gets higher as you reach the end of a ramp, something along those lines.

At least it's better than Oblivion or Fallout 3's third person view.

I swear...the way she looks when walking, looks like something you see in a fucking horror movie. It's just very weird.

Much better than Fallout 3's third-person view, as there's an actual animation for walking diagonally.

I don't know, but I feel like 3rd person will ruin this game. It takes away the uniqueness of it, the fast paced nature, and the almost realism.

Which is why its a console command that can be turned on, and not something that is intended. Since they never even finished the animations in the first place.

You can tell you have no control of her vision when, about half-way through, she's sprinting at full speed and staring at the floor. Hilarious.
