Giant Bomb Video Game News

Video Game News, Stories and Updates for the PS3, XBOX 360, PC, PSP, Wii, and DS

Added by Jeff Gerstmann on Oct. 10, 2008

If you're anything like me, you were hoping that we'd see a lot more of Noby Noby Boy, the upcoming PS3 game from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi. Well, the game surfaced in the form of a trailer that doesn't seem to shed much light on what's actually going on. Is this the game? Will you play as a dot-eating centipede, finally merging two games that stole my childhood to form something mad wonderful?

I have nothing to add other than to say that you should check out this trailer and see for yourself. At the bare minimum, the Mappy-era music that plays during the video is pleasant and catchy.

20 years from now, we'll ask ourselves, "Hey, remember when Noby Noby Boy was released, and totally changed the way video games were played?".

Mark my words:  we are witnessing the birth of a Pac Man for the new millenium!

@Pierce:

I doubt it, its a PSN exclusive game, so the exposure of the game will be kept at a minimum.  Like Katamari this will find mild success among a niche crowd.

All i can see is that this game has absolutely no direction, and i have NO clue what your goal is. Need to see more.

I don't know how to explain what I feel after watching that.  It is a little bit of pure glee and utter confusion.

Obnoxiously bright rainbow colors?  Check.
Annoying-yet-endearing brain-worm music?  Check.
Lack of gameplay compensated by quirky mix of said rainbow colors and annoying-yet-endearing music?  Check.

Yep, its from Japan.

They sure can make some music that sticks in your head.  As soon as I hear the Katamari intro I end up humming it for a half hour at least.  This sounds equally catchy.
I cannot figure anything out about the gameplay from that video though.  Are you supposed to eat the dots?  Only the stars?  No idea.
