The embargo is up for impressions of the New Xbox Experience, with stories hitting all around the web. Engadget's hands-on report has by far the most tantalizing piece of NXE news to my mind: The integrated streaming Netflix player will be the first Netflix platform of any kind to stream high-definition video. (All previous Netflix streaming methods only offered SD video.) Quoth Engadget:

A small perk -- but huge deal as far as we're concerned -- is the inclusion of a limited amount of HD content. We previewed Heroes in HD, and the quality was stunning. Right now there's only about 300 titles on offer, but we think after folks get a taste of this, they'll be begging for some expansion.

That is extremely exciting. If you're already using Netflix and already a Gold member on Xbox Live, you've suddenly got HD streaming in your living room for no additional fee. Propers to Netflix and Microsoft.

Man, I feel a lot better about urging my parents to buy a 360 last year. Sure, they use it for upscaling DVDs and iPod playback, but this Netflix business is the kind of feature with universal appeal that makes the console truly useful as an all-around media device.

We're fixing to get all up in the NXE ourselves, so stay tuned.

UPDATE:
We're messing around with the NXE in here and will bring you a comprehensive video preview of the features, including the Netflix module, later today.

I believe Netflix is only US so means nothing to us. Sad cause it sounds like a great idea.

I've been wanting to get a NetFlix membership.  Now I'm going to wait to see what kind of sweet new deals they're going to offer to grab new members! :)
Personally, I'm excited for the NXE.  I just hope that I can get red muttochops on my avatar... :P

--EDIT--
I thought Major Nelson announced last month (or something like that. Dates have been confusing since losing power for 18 days after Hurricane Ike and trying to catch up on old podcasts) that the NetFlix thing was not going to be available at lauch of NXE, but was planned for later roll-out.  I guess somehting changed.

This might be the thing that puts me over the edge and gets me to subscribe to netflix.  Man my friends would love me, being able to watch a movie on a whim like that....god that'd be amazing.

DeusEx: I believe it was the PrimeTime channel that wouldn't be available on launch.

DeusEx, Netflix will still be available at the launch of the NXE, however, movie sharing in your party will be coming later on down the road... maybe a spring update...

I was a Netflix member for a little while, till I got tired of the USPS middleman.  I ended my netflix membership thus.  Still the online "watch whenever" was almost a selling point.  If this works on the 360 then Netflix just became super awesome.  Time to cancel the cable TV service and just have high speed internet.

Quick question here as I can't find the answer on the Netflix website :(

Does anyone know if the service will be available outside of the US? I'm in the UK and there are no comparable services that I know of here. If this is available here I'll be a very happy man.
