PitFallout!

Let these fake Atari 2600 screenshots brighten your day.

One of the great perks of working at Giant Bomb is the exposure I get to the flashes of brilliance that come out of the community. If you need proof, look no further than the Giant Bomb Community T-Shirt Design Request thread, or these sweet screenshots of PitFallout! for the Atari 2600 from Giant Bomb power-user and kick-ass t-shirt designer buzz_clik , who has a bit of a history with absurd 2600 mock-ups . I'll let the man explain this madness himself.

For whatever reason (probably the headline), I came up with an idea while watching the video in Ryan's story on a robot playing Pitfall!

Why not make a game that combines Pitfall! and Fallout ? They're both open-world games, with our hero braving a harsh landscape looking for stuff to pocket. They both have portions that take place underground. Both games have scorpions, as any good game should. Hell, there's even an expansion for Fallout 3 called The Pitt!

Le winner, c'est non? Only one small thing stood between me and this game being made: I can't actually program games. A small hiccup, I know.

What I can do, however, is mock-up some screenshots for this gloriously pointless mashup. I've been down to the lab and come back with these pictures of my Frankensteinian baby. And so I present to a disinterested world... PitFallout!

I actually caught this last night while browsing through stuff. I really wish more people would develop commercial games for older systems. I think there's a viable bit of cash (nothing too serious, but still...) in the nostalgia market for older gamers.

Looks good, but where's the annoying green tint that floods Fallout 3? Man it looks weird to have a 2D Fallout where you can see the sky.

Awesome!!! Good for the guy who made it!

Minor suggestion: double the size of the scorpion.

I'm pretty sure that's Tenpenny Tower on the horizon.
