Platinum Announces 360/PS3 MadWorld Follow-Up 'Max Anarchy'

Who's ready for a "Massively Multiplayer Melee Fighting Action" game from the minds behind Bayonetta?

Because every protagonist with a chainsaw for an arm deserves a second shot, I’m stoked to share this bit of news with you: Platinum Games has revealed a new action-oriented, online-centric game featuring Jack of Madworld fame. It's called Max Anarchy and, unfortunately, further details are super sketchy at the moment.

Here's what we've got. In an interview with Famitsu magazine (translated via Andriasang), Platinum's Atsushi Inaba brands Max Anarchy as a "massively multiplayer melee fighting action" game. He doesn't dive into specifics, but he does confirm the assumption based on that branding that Max Anarchy will support a large number of players tasked with beating each other up in a free-for-all scenario.

As for the Jack thing... well, it appears as if Platinum just wanted to put the star in another title. Inaba says he'll make an appearance for sure, but the game won't revolve around him--not even its offline campaign component, which was mentioned in passing alongside a separate co-op component.

The game is slated to hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 at some point worldwide in Fall 2011, so we'll probably hear a lot more about Max Anarchy in the coming months. I guess I should add that Inaba seems pretty sure Platinum is doing something with this game that has never been done before, so this should be an interesting one to follow.

TurboManon Jan. 26, 2011 at 12:45 p.m.
Any Platinum Game means that I'm interested.
Mesoianon Jan. 26, 2011 at 12:46 p.m.
Well, as long as there are more sexy girls in stripped stockings, I'm in.
Sesshon Jan. 26, 2011 at 12:48 p.m.
Well, this could be really good, since Mad World is one of the very few Wii Titles that I actually genuinely enjoyed.

Will definetly have to keep an eye on this one.

@dillinger:
Yeah, fantastic comment. "First" or "Finally" would have been equally great.

Never actually played MW, but because of their last three games, auto-interest in this one.

How do Platinum put out so much?

Don't want to get my hopes up too high for this, but definitely color me interested.

Hm, that's pretty interesting. Melee fighting multiplayer games hasn't really been tried before.

MadWorld had alot of great style but everything else was severely lacking.

Platinum reminds me of my developer in "Game Dev Story," getting a triple A title out in no time at all.
Killroycantkillon Jan. 26, 2011 at 1 p.m.

So far Platinum hasn't done me wrong, I'm sure this game will be good as well.
DonutFeveron Jan. 26, 2011 at 1:06 p.m.
Can't wait, multiplayer might have been cool for the original but it was split-screen only so I didn't play it ore than once.
JohnDudebroon Jan. 26, 2011 at 1:06 p.m.
If Jack is just making an appearance and the game "doesn't revolve around him", isn't it kinda disingenuous to call this a MadWorld follow-up? I feel like that implies more connection than there is.

Not really a complaint with the game, just the headline.

Aahhhhhh

So this is a screenshot from Mad World? Because that makes this pretty misleading. Might wanna disclaimerize that.
LOZZATon Jan. 26, 2011 at 1:09 p.m.
Awesome, bit worried about anything that has the words "massively multiplayer" associated with it, but then again, I know nothing about this yet. Hoping for gameplay or more info soon.

I MOST DEFINITELY AM! Seriously, this sounds awesome.
