WITH PRICES LIKE THESE, SONY MUST BE INSAAAAAAAAAAANE
WITH PRICES LIKE THESE, SONY MUST BE INSAAAAAAAAAAANE
In addition to posting Brain Challenge and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix up on the PlayStation Store this week, Sony also announced a temporary price cut for a handful of games.

The following games will be available for $4.99 until 12/4/2008.

That is a much more palatable price for a game like The Last Guy, which is clever but also extremely repetitive. Also, as I seem to be the one person on Earth who thinks that PixelJunk Eden isn't all that great, I wish I had picked it up for five bucks instead of... uh... however much they were originally charging.

Novastrike and Commando 3 aren't so hot, but their low level of hotness is probably a lot more forgivable at the $5 point.

And echochrome... maaaaan, I really wanted to love echochrome. But this whole "spatial awareness" thing is apparently not my forte. Maybe that's why I was always so awful at solving Rubik's Cubes. GAME AM TOO HARD FOR TINY BRANE BUT ME STILL LIKE ART STYLE (ALSO: ROCKS). Paying $5 to be told that you're an idiot is, at least, better than paying $10. Or $15.

Eh, none of those guys sound all that interesting to me. I'll pass and just keep buying LittleBigPlanet costumes because I'm a massive tool.

Got an email about this from Playstation Underground.

I was hoping Mega Man 9 to be 5 bucks, but alas...my hopes have been crushed.

I may just have to get Eden now.  I've heard nothing but good things and it's less than a subway sandwich

I wasn't the biggest fan of the PixelJunk Eden demo, but I might pick up the full game for $5...that's not too bad at all.

This was awesome news!  I actually just finished the demo to Eden last week and was gonna wait a week or so after buying SSFTHDR to pick it up, but at 5 bucks it was totally a steal.  The music and uniqueness are worth it for me, not to mention its very entertaining.

I'll pick up eden for sure for 5$. Honestly can't remember if I have echochrome or not....if I don't I'll buy them both, great deal, since I don't think they're worth it in the full price.

As someone who has 3 of these games (Novastrike, echochrome, and eden) this doesn't  mean too much to me, but I have been curious about The Last Guy.  At five bucks though it is a decent buy for these games.  Eden and Echocrhrome really aren't bad games, but they are the type that need a core following to feel worth it.  Eden could've been a little more forgiving for missing a jump, and Echocrhrome couldv'e just used a better detection system when its parallel lines actually lined up (too much minor tweeking and trial and error to get from one platform to the next).  Nova strike is actually a good game that is really only playable by those who like the old school shooters like Xevious (so you have to be over 25 yrs. old).  Thanks to all the Geometry Wars clones out there, Nova Strike becomes too challenging.  Once you get past not having the whole Right stick shoot/Left stick move that we've become accustomed to it is actually a good shooter with a good depth and pacing.  Its pretty much a Xevious that you can "scroll" in any direction.  So for an "old school gamer" it is a return to long lost gameplay mechanics, but current day players it will feel stifled and restrictive.

It is good that they reduced the price for these games, but it does say alot about the adoption of them.  They know these are the games that should have sold more at their original price, but didn't pull the wanted volume in DLs.  It makes a lot of sense that they are doing this, but is still good for these game that should at least be tried out by a good portion of gamers that would rather have a challenging experience that was only given back in the old school day of gaming.
