PS2 God Of Wars Hitting PS3 On Blu-Ray This Fall

Looking for a little remastered Kratos in your stocking this year? Perhaps you are in luck.

Maybe this is why there hasn't been a PlayStation 3 with backwards compatibility lately. Sony has just announced God of War Collection for the PS3, a Blu-ray compilation of the first and second God of War games, both of which you will recall were originally made for the PS2. The press release says the games have been "reworked... at full 1280x720 resolution" and "remastered with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience on the PS3 system." There's also trophy support for both games, so even if you played them in their heyday, there's some new stuff in here for you.

Just so you know I'm not fibbin', here's the new logo. No new assets released for this one, but then, you ought to have a pretty good idea what these games look like.

Destructoid is reporting the comp will be out in November and will run you the nice price of $39.99. This is certainly a good way to get Kratos and friends implanted back into the public consciousness, since God of War III is still a ways off into 2010.

But do you think this is a one-off promotional move, or will we see other PS2 series being restored to glory with high-res graphics and hooks into the PlayStation Network? What franchises would you want to see get this treatment? It would be a little odd for Sony to start selling packages like this frequently, since they removed support for the original versions from the PS3 after it was there in the first place. But I have to admit, I'd pay good money for a disc with 720p versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus sometime before The Last Guardian is out. How about you?

Sweet, Metroid Prime and God of War getting redone?  Sounds like a good deal.

i would love to have ICO and Shadow of the Colossus running in 720P!!! they should totally do that.

Persona 4 on the PS3! Yeah!

This would be great news for someone who doesn't have a PS3 or hasn't played these games.  Glad to see Sony is doing stuff to fix their lack of BC after dropping the Emotion engine.

MGS 2 and 3 would be sweet. OH AND MAYBE RELEASE MGS1 IN THE EU PSN STORE! :@

Well, I suppose it is a step in the right direction.

I agree, SOTC in 720p/1080p at 60fps would be orgasmic. The slowdowns in the PS2 versions were kind of a bummer.

Can't be cheap to remaster PS2 games.  I'm sure many many titles have assets that aren't a pixel larger than the PS2 needed them to be.  Keeping the GOW3 artists busy to drum up some momentum and extra sales is a smart move.

I will also buy this if it helps send a similar message to Team ICO.

Would it happen to Prince of Persia: Sands of Time?  Doubt it.

Sweet I never played them and I had a feeling they would do this.....
This is so cool........  Will buy for sure, also if the same treatment will be done to the ICO games.... Also didn't play those (hanging my head in shame)

When I first heard about this collection, the first thing I thought was, "They need to do this with ICO and Shadow of the Colossus."

A sweet deal - and i too would pay a generous amount of money for some of the best ps2 games remade for the hd era - i missed both the first GoW games, so im definately picking this up

As for the people moaning about backwards Compatibility- remember not every ps2 game WAS B/C and even those that were, were often flawed in their play -  a sum for a fully compatible and upgraded version of a game oyu love sounds fine to me

GoW is a made by a sony based company isnt it, so i would think only sony based games will be remade for the ps3.

Woah, this fall?  THAT SOON?!  I never played the first two games.  I'll definately pick this up.

The Metal Gear Solid series should receive the same treatment. Although I do not own a PS3, it'd be pretty cool to see.

Awesome!

How is it a collection if it doesn't include of God of War 3?
MrMiyagion Aug. 31, 2009 at 11:19 a.m.
This is so damn awesome!

I think it makes a lot of sense for story sequels that are spanning generations.  There will be plenty of people that want to play God 3, but feel like they can't if they haven't played 1 and 2.  Smart move on Sony's part.

Resident Evil 4 with Resident Evil 5 graphics is a dream for me.
