Quake Live Hitting Macs, Linux Next Week

Finally, the news two of you have been waiting for.

Those of you in the huge group of people using a Mac for your mobile computing--and those in the probably smaller group of people trying to play games on Linux--are in luck. At the QuakeCon kickoff press conference a few minutes ago, id Software's Marty Stratton briefly announced that the web-based Quake Live client will finally be available for OS X and Linux next Tuesday. (If you happen to be at QuakeCon, you can go play it on those platforms on the show floor right now.)

Good news for people like me who go on business trips like the one I'm on right now with their MacBooks. Hmm. Too bad it isn't out right now. Since it's based on a decade-old game and all, Quake Live ought to run on just about anything at this point.

Nice, still need bootcamp for steam though.  This is sweet though, easy gaming on the go.

It'll be much more comfortable (And I'll be much better) playing this at my desktop Mac than trying to play it on my Windows Netbook. Hooray!

Finally! Have waited a long time on the linux version! :D But lately been very busy with the Heroes of Newerth beta! More games to Linux! :)
MrKloroxon Aug. 13, 2009 at 7:14 p.m.
I'm all for putting simpler games like this on 'lesser gaming' hardware. As long as the games can run at full power, they should be made available to the platforms. Then again it's probably easier for the user to emulate windows and run them from there.

Now... If only people who buy PC laptops with intent to play games realized they need to play older ones, they probably wouldn't have bought a PC notebook. Just because it's PC doesn't mean it's going to run games. I came across a guy who was talking all sorts of shit on Prototype because it's a band new game that won't run on his shitty laptop.

If I wasn't pretty into PC gaming, I would only need a Mac laptop for my computing needs. Perhaps once On Live comes... ah who am I kidding, I enjoy modding.

More power to the people I guess.
GozerTCon Aug. 15, 2009 at 8:07 p.m.

YAY!  More targets and no more dual booting to play. :)
