Red Faction: Armageddon's DLC Prequel Is Called Battlegrounds

Armageddon's pre-release downloadable is named at GDC Europe.

A few important details about Red Faction: Armageddon's pre-release downloadable game have snuck out at GDC Europe 2010. At the event, THQ Digital creative director Don Whiteford showed a short video demo of the title, revealing that it'll have some sort of vehicular-combat focus. He also confirmed its name: Red Faction: Battlegrounds.

In a GameSpot article about Whiteford's panel (which was called "Rethinking a Studio for the Digital Space"), the game was described as an arena-type title that featured mechs and tanks and rovers. Whiteford said the game would support local play of up to four players and would also feature unlockable items for Armageddon. He pegged THQ Digital Warrington as the developer.

== TEASER ==Battlegrounds was first outed earlier this June by THQ VP Danny Bilson. During a chat at E3 2010, he said Battlegrounds would be a game sold to fans of the series, not necessarily newcomers. He also said it would feature TV show-related content, a facet of the game Whiteford apparently didn't touch on.

In July, SyFy and THQ revealed plans for a March 2011 pilot for a hopeful TV series called Red Faction: Origins. The show will feature Red Faction: Guerilla star Alec Mason's son Jake and will revolve around his fight against Martian aggressors.

The URL for Battlegrounds was recently registered by THQ, leading to speculation that it might be related to a 3DS game in the works.

"Rethinking a Studio for the Digital Space," according to GameSpot, was a seminar on how a studio juggles multiple projects at once while still innovating. Whiteford described THQ's approach, in terms of trying out new stuff, as a "fail fast" model.
