Retailer Listing Says Medal of Honor Beta Starts July 5

No word on pre-order exclusive beards. Yet.

It appears that we'll be getting our beard-and-gun on in EA DICE's portion of the Medal of Honor reboot as early as next month…in exchange for a pre-order, of course. A recent listing on Play.com reveals that the shooter's multiplayer beta will launch on July 5 and will end shortly after, on July 17, for all pre-purchasers of the game. Vouchers for the beta will be issued via email on the start date.

EA still hasn't officially issued any details about the beta (after acknowledging that there will be one) in North America. But if this listing is accurate, it looks like you'll have to advance GameStop (or maybe other retailers) some cash in order to participate. Not that this is an unusual practice or anything--just be aware.

Here's the Play.com listing, which will probably look similar to the inevitable North American one:

Pre-ordering Medal Of Honor from Play.com will give fans the opportunity to join the Medal Of Honor multiplayer BETA when it goes live on July 5th 2010. The BETA will take place between July 5th and July 17th - access codes will be emailed on July 5th. All pre-orders through Play.com will entitle customers to an access code. BETA access details are subject to change at any time.

It seems likely that Medal of Honor's multiplayer component will be a big focus for EA and DICE at E3 2010 in Los Angeles. EA has shown the single-player portion of the game multiple times (check out that other Brad's take on it), but has yet to publicly show what the Battlefield developer has up its sleeves for the online portion. I'll go ahead and guess it'll be good. SO EXCITE.

GameSpot might give out codes for the BETA like they did with Bad Company 2.

Pre-order beards would be the only acceptable pre-order bonus.

any details of a PC Beta?
Donkeycowon June 10, 2010 at 9:30 a.m.
one of the main aspects of the single player is authenticity, i hope that is the case with the multiplayer also.  one of my biggest gripes with MW2 was it was way to crazy, unlike CoD 4 which had a dark semi-real "feel" to it.
Bluemanon June 10, 2010 at 9:33 a.m.

I'll consider this.

Sweet. DICE has a great track record with multiplayer shooters and I'm really looking forward to see how it will differ from Battlefield.

But I also hear there will be a singleplayer campaign from another developer packed-in to justify the $60 price tag. Not so sure about that piece of ancillary gameplay.

Pre-order, get your code, cancel pre-order. Worked for me for Bad Company 2 on the PC - Play had the beta, but Game.co.uk had the limited edition, and it was cheaper.

I hope i can get into the beta. i'm really interested to see what DICE can do to with this. Its really a weird thing going on here.  Who knows if it will really resemble the SP at all. And not to mention the fact that MOH is really the most direct competitor to COD so it'll be interesting to see if this MP is more similar to Modern Warfare or Battlefield.

Why the fuck play.com and not something everybody fucking uses like Amazon?

@zudthespud: Nope. Not yet. But I did throw an e-mail at EA.

It's so sweet when you stumble upon one of these ancient people, with still a glimmer of hope in their eyes.

Language, child.

does every game really need a damn public beta nowadays?

" Flipping 90 degrees to the right, our man takes out an Afghan soldier approaching over a rock. I make an internal sad gasp as the enemy soldier transforms into a ragdoll and flies over a dozen feet backwards."

Almost completely lost interest when I read that. To my mind there's no excuse for shoddy ragdoll physics in FPS anymore. It's also a big indicator that they aren't even going to attempt realism. Another OTT action game then. Does not bode well.

Pre-order betas are the worst. That is all.
dvorakon June 10, 2010 at 1:13 p.m.
I just want to get a glimpse. The multiplayer can really go either way.
