Rockstar Games' L.A. Noire Hitting May 17

Hey, that sounds like a perfect time for an open-world crime thriller.

Doing anything this summer? No? Great, because here’s a game you can check out: L.A. Noire, Rockstar Games’ open-world crime thriller, hits North American store shelves on May 17, 2011 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. A European release on both consoles will follow three days later on May 20, 2011.

Rockstar confirmed these dates earlier this morning after a leaked trailer let the US release date slip in advance of its marketing department’s wishes. You can view it now in all its “official” glory just below.

Evil Lurks in L.A. Noire

Here's more from Rockstar's sinister crime thriller, due out in May.

L.A. Noire is a Team Bondi-developed game, and an ambitious one at that. According to reports, the title has a 300-page script and focuses as much on character and narrative as your typical, loosey-goosey Rockstar Games open-world joint. Team Bondi has put a lot of effort into the facial motion capture for the game, which theoretically should make for some interesting conversations and such.

The game's story revolves around a cop named Cole Phelps, a do-gooder with a secret who's fresh out of World War II. As Phelps, you’ll investigate and solve crimes and also deal with a police department steeped in scandals during the 1940s. L.A. Noire is the second May release in a row for Rockstar, who also shipped Red Dead Redemption around the same time last year.

I love the theme and the era. Let's just hope it's as good as it has the potential to be.

So you post the video by itself, and then and article about the video? That makes perfect sense, top notch work.

No PC version, no way to care about anything outside of the great technical achievements who deserve many rewards by themselves, putting a game this beautiful on these old clunker consoles. May the PS3 version be decent :|

Using the old x-number of pages script argument. Oh noes, the last game I remember bragging about script size was Haze. At least the game looks good.

Awesome.  Thats about the same time RDR came out.

This is shaping up to be a more interesting Heavy Rain or something, with Mafia II elements. I'm just super excited about this.

I wrote a 500 page fanfiction script for Haze, they'll totally use it for the sequel.

Makes me sad to see Rockstar abandon the PC. Was looking forward to this game, but now I'm going to wait for the bargain bin since I hate playing these kind of games with controllers.

May of last year is when I picked up another Rockstar game I knew nothing about. And that ended up being my favorite game of the year.

Could this do it again? Only Rockstar....

My first ever comment, and yes... it's a negative one (sorry)

" Hey, that sounds like a perfect time for an open-world crime thriller."

Is the tagline for this article... But the game actually isn't open-world. Rockstar have said that themselves.

I could of sworn Rockstar was developing this
