Second Borderlands Add-On Due Later This Month

Get a bank! And more skill points!

Can't we get BEYOND Underdome?
Can't we get BEYOND Underdome?
OK, it seems clear now that Gearbox and 2K are going to take this "downloadable add-on" thing pretty seriously, as they've officially announced the second piece of DLC for Borderlands, Max Moxxi's Underdome Riot.

As I selfishly skim the released information for details that may be relevant to my level 50 soldier, two things immediately jump out. First, this add-on will bring a bank to Borderlands, giving players a place to leave behind any exceptional, but not immediately useful loot they may find. An out-of-inventory storage area is a great idea, as I'm still running around with old guns that look cool, but aren't powerful enough to actually be of any use in a fight.

Also, the quest rewards in the Underdome pack will include two skill points, which you can apply to your skill tree however you see fit. I understand if this sounds meaningless to you, but if you've played as much Borderlands as I have, you're probably all "two new skill points! YEAH!!!!" It's not quite the same as a proper raise of the level cap, but it's close enough for now.

As you may have guessed from the additional trophy details that leaked out yesterday (if not Mad Max-like nature of the pack's name), this pack adds more arenas to the game. There will be three new "Riot Mode" arenas, to be exact. I have to admit, I'm not sure if the use of this "Riot Mode" moniker will mean that they're any different from the game's existing arenas, each of which offered a few waves of enemies to battle in a tight, dare I say, arena-like environment. They got a little tough, but since you could respawn after a death and run right back into the arena mid-battle, none of them were impossible. Hopefully there's more to this DLC pack than that.

The pack will run you $10 and will appear on the Xbox 360 on December 29. PlayStation 3 owners will have to wait a bit, as that release is scheduled for January 7. There's no word on a PC release, but considering the first DLC--The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned--hit the PC earlier this week, that makes it sound like PC players could be seeing Max Moxxi before the end of January.

Oh, hey, here are two screenshots of this thing, too.

I appreciate the MST3K reference.

Another $10 DLC pack?

Sounds like Gearbox is responding to the people asking for more PVP-based content... Poor judgment call if you ask me, but hey, I'm no developer.

This is going to be so awesome! :D

Still need to play this game.

They better give fun things for those with level 50 characters to do. The Zombie DLC was cool, but still too easy for a level 50 character.

That was certainly not the case for me... I failed and had to restart a couple rounds.

If you die in the games existing arenas, you can't just respawn and get back in the fight, the arena resets and you have to start all over again. So yeah, the arenas was the hardest part of the game, because if even one of us died, we would all fail.
(EDIT: ^ As HatKing pointed out)

Why are you complaining?

Still haven't picked the game up yet but I intend to.

This is ONLY speculation but it seems that the developers aren't quite attuned to the desires of the max level players in the game. Borderlands seems very mmo-esque if you will, and mmos need lots of endgame content to satisfy the player base. Its good that the team is releasing content but I think it would be better if they spaced the content out more and raised the level cap every time. Again, this is only an opinion from somebody who has not yet played borderlands so I may be way off.

Mad Max was immediately the first thing that popped in my head when I saw this.

@HatKing: Same

This is all very well and good, but this still means that i will be probably leaving my level 50 Brick sleeping because (with at least the zombie island of Dr. Ned)  using him was a waste of time unless i wanted to bust out the quests quickly. Using Brick meant that he was unable to level up in either the general level or the skill level of guns, and in a game like this it was a major drag that every item I had was about  one and a half  to double the power of all the guns, grenades, and shields i found.
What this all meant was that i started up Roland and had a childish like glee playing that  game again.  This game is in the top 3 games of the year for me so I hunger for more but what I find is that if they use the same thought process in this new DLC as the last one then I will pick it up and continue on with Roland. I am not trying to complain but i just want something more, where this can all be silenced is to allow the level cap to go beyond 50 and throw some crazy enemies at me . With my forum troll ramblings done I still can't wait to download this and spend some quality time with it.

I loved the Zombie Island DLC, and I'm definitely looking forward to this, too. I'm happy they decided to include the storage area for weapons. My Roland has waaay too many guns that I can't bring myself to get rid of.

I thought we had already moved beyond Thunderdome?
Alphazeroon Dec. 10, 2009 at 11:55 a.m.
Awesome. The arenas were fun, and depending on your level, pretty challenging.
Pieon Dec. 10, 2009 at 11:56 a.m.
Huh, a bank and two new skill points sound good but new arenas? Ill have to wait and see
Raven_Swordon Dec. 10, 2009 at 11:56 a.m.

lol, havent even played this game yet.
