Video Game News, Stories and Updates for the PS3, XBOX 360, PC, PSP, Wii, and DS

Though the Sony keynote was a bit of a bust for information-hungry game fans, the press conference the company ran shortly afterwards had a bit more meat to it. According to liveblogs from G4 and Kotaku, Sony made a few key announcements during its press conference. For starters, Gran Turismo 5 is now on for March 2010, at least in Japan.

But the more interesting portion has to do with Sony's motion controller. Set to be released in the Spring, the motion controller will be usable with LittleBigPlanet. It sounds like a patch is going into LBP that will add a point-and-click sort of option. Maybe this'll make level editing easier while adding some Super Mario Galaxy type of cooperative play?

Resident Evil 5 will also have motion controller support, but this won't be a patch. Instead, it'll be a whole new release known as Resident Evil 5: Director's Cut. Capcom's Jun Takeuchi was on stage to debut the new version of the game, and those on-hand seem to universally describe it as similar to the Wii release of Resident Evil 4.

A voice actress from Resident Evil 5 recently made comment about going back in to record new dialogue for an RE5 update, so it seems safe to assume that there will be more to this update than control changes.

Weirdly enough, Sony opted to not offer a live translation of this press conference for English speakers, so some of the coverage out there right now is a little dicey in spots. The liveblogs at Kotaku and G4 seem to be the most together of the lot, so give them a look for more details.

Still hoping for whatever that Jill thing is to become DLC.

I read the Kotaku blog about it.  I wonder if Sony will re-release some of it's games with motion support or just patch it in.

I kind of want this. It sounds cool. If stuff like this keeps coming to the motion controller, I might pick one up.

New-Style Control RE5 and White Knight 2(?) seem to be the only real meat.

BTW the Peace Walker Demo is freakin legit!

Reading a live blog of this it sounded like the RE5 demo was an impression (good or bad remains to be seen) of RE4 on Wii... Except holding a dual shock on the left hand (yuck)... NOW people are excited for this sort of gameplay, eh? Figures.

Is it 100% that Director's Cut is the motion controlled version or just speculation? It sounded like DLC material, or re-release, and I read mumblings over the motion controlled version being called Alternate something or other.

That's pretty insane.

This would essentially open a new door in LBP. FPS, anyone?

It's a re-release, Sterling McGarvey called it "RE5: Alternate edition". I don't know about you, but I would trust Sterling with my life, so I obviously trust him with this.

I know it's a re-release I was just inquiring over Director's Cut being a different unrelated thing that may also be DLC or re-release.

I'm even less interested in this than if they had just gone with a nunchuck as well as motion control.

No, this is not exciting and it seems far from optimal.  At least they'll almost certainly still support traditional controls.

Motion controls will not make the game that much better. The NPC count will need to be upped significantly, and seeing as though that was only done on PC for technical reasons, this sounds a little lame and a waste of time.

Im all for it as long as the game is developed with actual gamers in mind, no gimmicky bullshit motion controls just for the sake of having them. As long as it still supports regular controller business then I guess its fine.

Although RE5 seems kind of a weird first choice for motion controls on the ps3, LBP I guess makes sense sorta... But I cant imagine getting very good at using the controller as a mouse for the level editor, even if its 1:1 motion sensing, peoples hands are shaky, and a slight bump on the ground in LBP messes up things in a big way.

I want to see them do some really original stuff, something that they can take advantage of the extra camera triangulation tech.  I figure that stuff is still coming, but tacking it on to an existing game doesn't seem any more of a good idea now than it did with Wii games.

Also, there's a good amount of info on the international version of White Knight Chronicles, which is also the NA version coming out around march too I think. It talks about having all the japanese DLC on disc, having full voice chat, and other various features I never heard about like making your won town/city and having lots of customization with that. Kotaku has something about it. Some new stuff, some old stuff with new additions, and old stuff no one heard about because this game got delayed too much(twice) for anyone to get hyped.

Overall the game sounds better every time I hear about it at one of these events, lets hope it comes together and all of these online/multiplayer/customization features help it stand out from FF13 and the like.

YAY!, something I'm not interested in!

So they're ripping off the Wii? Way to go Sony.

Great it's going to be the third time I bought resident evil 5 then. Also the pc version already has very accurate controls. Still I can't really aim well on the ps3's dual shock at all, maybe this new control scheme would be better if the motion controller didn't look so retarded.
