Street Fighter IV Alternate Costume Show

Let's take a look at some of the alternate costumes for Street Fighter IV and then engage in some brief consumer-oriented rage.

IGN got a look at the alternate costumes for all of the Street Fighter IV characters today and posted up a trailer showing off the new stuff. Actually, "new" is a relative term. Most of these costumes appear in the arcade version of SFIV, but need to be purchased with the in-game currency you win while playing versus matches with your ID card inserted into the machine. So the only truly new outfits here are courtesy of the console-exclusive characters.

The catch is that these costumes don't sound like they're going to be a part of the retail package. So we're looking at premium downloadable content for a game that's out next month. Didn't anyone tell Capcom that showing off stuff that looks totally finished and could be easily inserted into the retail product before release, only to sell it later is extremely bad form? Then again, it's possible that some or all of this will appear in the Collector's Edition of the game. Does that make it OK? Christ, I'm so into Street Fighter IV already that I've already lost perspective on this. Shouldn't I be super-pissed, raging on about how these will probably be 108k downloads on the 360, signifying that they're already on the disc?

Between Capcom not really being 100 percent clear on what we'll get and how we'll get it, and the fact that Zangief is dressed up like Mike effin' Haggar, I'm a swirl of emotions over here. Also? Guile dressed as Charlie... that's awesome, but he needs the hair to complete the look.

The Escapist's own Jared Rea took time out of talking shit about my Honda skills to rate these new costumes, so be sure to check that out, as well.

I love the "opening scene of Enter The Dragon" alt. for Fei Long.

Balrog's costume is my favorite. And who else thinks they should have given Fei Long a yellow jumpsuit?

I think it's a bit cheap to attempt to sell costumes as DLC but Capcom can do what they want. I'll still play SF IV

frobro if they did that it would have been way more expected

Some of these are pretty coll but i don't think i would pay for them
DarkHomeron Jan. 27, 2009 at 8:07 p.m.
You have to pay for these? Why? Can't it just be the same as the arcade where you play online, get fake moneyz, and get them that way? That would be so much better >.<.
SoulEdgeSlayeron Jan. 27, 2009 at 8:08 p.m.
I really hope they unlock at the end of each respective characters story/arcade playthrough.

manathirston Jan. 27, 2009 at 8:21 p.m.

Djnarduon Jan. 27, 2009 at 8:23 p.m.
Is it me or does the alt costume for Seth look better then his standard?
HatKingon Jan. 27, 2009 at 8:41 p.m.
So I'm no Street Fighter fan, but I though these looked pretty good.

Maybe it won't fit on the disc or something. At least on the 360, and there for they has excuse for PS3 version. I have no idea lol. I assume they weren't really that stupid.

Most of them look pretty stupid though lol. Maybe THATS why! xD I dunno, I just can't imagine such a terrible move on the part of realy ANY developer.

why are IGN's videos always so tiny? =_=

Man, the costumes mostly look like shit to me.  And Jeff, your playing Honda, you should know to expect mad smack talk about your skillz.  Stop playing a HACK char :p
Alaska_Gameron Jan. 27, 2009 at 9:58 p.m.
Man, if it is DLC, those alt costumes better not be overpriced.
ArbitraryWateron Jan. 27, 2009 at 10 p.m.
I like the alternate costumes, but the way people will have to pay for them is ridiculous.
88Fingerson Jan. 27, 2009 at 10:07 p.m.
Honestly? As much as I am an extra costume junky.... I don't really like any of what I've seen.
These characters are too iconic to be dressed up in silly outfits like this :(
Strange, any other game I'd be fine with these extra outfits....
They don't belong in a Street Fighter game.... they should leave the goofy stuff for
the likes of Tekken & Soul Calibur...
I'll take a color pallet swap any day over making these icons look silly.

I gotta' have Ken in a Yellow Gi
otherwise I'll be sad :(

For Street Fighter IV, I am willing to pay the DLC cost.
