Apparently I blacked out the part of my memory devoted to the knowledge that someone was going to try to make a King of Fighters movie. But it started shooting back in November, and cast details were also available. Maggie Q (of Need for Speed Undercover fame) as Mai Shiranui? Let me be the last to say "that seems like an awful choice."

That seems like an awful choice. There, got that out of the way.

Caught this embedded clip on Kotaku, which contains some bits from the cast and crew on the movie:

"An adaptation of the popular arcade and console game series, KING OF FIGHTERS revolves around the pursuit of three artifacts that will grant their owner unlimited power over reality."
OK, right there, that sentence has more story in it than anything I really remember from the KOF series. When I think back to the games, all I can really remember is... uh... Orochi blood? And... something about NESTS? Oh, and Terry Bogard yelling "come on, come on!"

This clip also has the actresses that will be portraying Vice and Mature talking about their craft. I could go on and on about this, but really, the Internet is about creativity, and I think you shouldn't have any trouble writing your own material about this self-serious clip.

All I know is that if Heavy D! isn't in it, I'm out.

Well, as history's taught us, movie's based on video game fighters are always complete successes.

Who knows if it will be good or not, Fighting games into movies are probably the hardest to pull off.

I really didn't think King of Fighters was that well-known outside of the gaming world to warrant a movie.  I was also unaware there was a story to any of it.

Prediction:  This won't be "more than just a videogame movie."  It'll probably just be a newer, more obscure Mortal Kombat Annihilation.  If it's that unintentionally funny, I may want to see it.

The lady who is playing Mature had the best description possible, "we have moves that work together and we fight everybody".

What gives me hope here is they seem to be taking everything way too seriously so it could turn into a b movie classic.

Ok, while I am not too familiar with the KOF series, this looks like it is going to be horrible.  The premise sounds stupid, the producers are taking it way too seriously, and the actors look like d-bags.  Any time you try to apply a story to something that is devoid of one in the first place it is doomed to failure.  Watching that clip actually pissed me off a bit because of how idiotic it looks.  Ok, I feel better now. =)

I am one of the few that liked Legend of Chun--Li, but I don't know if a King of Fighters movie will work.

omg, noooooo. This is not good, seeing Vice & Mature just the kiss of death for me. Also Shizuru & Iori was like big no for me. They can even make a good KoF Anime, this movie as no hope to be any good.
