Treyarch Clarifies COD DLC PDQ

"Day One Advantage" less insidious than it initially seemed.

If you buy the Super Gold Extra Bonus edition, you get a free plane with bonus explosions!
If you buy the Super Gold Extra Bonus edition, you get a free plane with bonus explosions!
There's been a lot of tiny pieces of info coming out of conference call/webcast that Activision held for analysts this week. One of the more ire-inducing bits was the notion of multiple tiers of downloadable content for Treyarch's upcoming shooter, Call of Duty: World at War.

But either the real plans for COD: World at War were garbled in transmission or there's been a quick turnaround by Activision, as Treyarch's community manager has posted to the official COD site with a clarification on "Day One Advantage" content.

While it will give a bonus to some players, this will merely be a set of early unlocks for players who pre-order the game or buy the collector's edition. Pre-order players will receive a high-end rifle and CE players will get early access to a long machine gun. Both items will be unlockable by normal players as they gain experience points and levels in the game.

So this is a little lower on the Battlefield: Bad Company Evil Marketing Plan meter than it previously seemed. I don't know about you, but I tend to stick with the early game guns in Call of Duty 4, and mere access to weapons didn't seem to give players an advantage in that game. If Treyarch is sticking close to the COD4 blueprint on things like that, it shouldn't be any different.

Look for more information on pre-order programs and such as the game's November release date approaches.

Eh, I don't really mind as long as it's not impossible to be able to obtain the same weapons.

I don't consider it even close to the lame "buy super ultra weapons that you can't get any other way" method.

Treyarch isn't making a good start...

It will take all of about 5 minutes from the time some kid gets home with his "pre-ordered copy"  to the time he posts the code online for EVERYONE to have access to the unlockables.

I really only use a total of maybe 4 different guns in CoD anyway, so unless these things are super high-tier, I'm not really worried.

Newsflash! CoD Rips Off Battlefield Yet Again!

too many stories! I can't read them all! Anyway, like you jeff, I usually stuck with the MP5, AK-47, and M40A1 (all early game guns) for most of my COD4 career

Gah, if you ask me, they should just add this "bonus" content in the regular game box. Call me when Acti is ready to do real premium promotional stuff, like cat-sized helmets, duffel bags or keychains.
DaemonBlackon Sept. 17, 2008 at 10:23 p.m.
i hope you're not an M16 user Jeff, or i might lose a little respect for you. maybe.

AnTiPROon Sept. 18, 2008 at 10:07 a.m.
Wowwwwww....Gamers need to come together and not buy any of this crap. Let the companies know we won't take it.
Captain_Fookupon Sept. 20, 2008 at 8:36 a.m.
that will never happen AnTIPRO, xbox live users tend to take the easy way out.
