Video Game News, Stories and Updates for the PS3, XBOX 360, PC, PSP, Wii, and DS

MTV Multiplayer's Stephen Totilo brings word of a new game based on The Warriors, a classic 1979 film in which a gang of the same name is framed for murder and must cross through a number of enemy gangs' turf in order to get home to Coney Island. It's a formula that probably helped inspire a number of brawler-style games over the years, not the least of which is Rockstar's 2005 release based on the film.

This new game is completely unrelated to Rockstar's take on the movie. Instead, this Xbox Live Arcade game is being done up by CTXM, the development house responsible for other XBLA releases such as Heavy Weapon and Astropop. The game will be a four-player brawler in the same vein as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with shifting images and speech bubbles being used to convey the story.

GameTrailers posted up the first footage of the game in action. Take a look:

Maybe it's just the way these sorts of games look when you take them from sprites to polygons, but I'm reminded of Acclaim's kind-of-terrible Batman Forever: The Arcade Game by this footage. As a fan of the movie, it'll be neat to see how this turns out, but I can't help but feel that Rockstar has already provided a definitive take on the property, and something as stripped down as this looks seems a little weak by comparison.

Yeah I agree that this game doesn't really need another version besides the Rockstar one :/

It's a damn shame Rockstar never released an upgraded version of The Warriors arcade game built in the actual game onto the PSN or XBLA.

yeah, Rockstar should have just re-released an updated version instead. It was such a good game that could have been so awesome with online gameplay.

I'd like to see the Rockstar version released on Live.  I'd buy that for a dollar.

Looks awful. The music in the trailer was even worse.

I don't remember when he glowed bright red and did a hurricane kick in the film.

I heard good things about that PS2/Xbox game.  I'm going to check this out when it comes out.

I loved the movie, but I don't think I'll be in any hurry to get the game.
