SimCity Creator DS
Your sims rejoice!
After seeing SimCity Creator in action on the DS, I'm not entirely clear what that title is supposed to mean. I think “SimCity Civilization” would make more sense, though I could see some copyright issues, and the ensuing knife fight between Will Wright and Sid Meier, preventing that. (As an aside, who do you think would win that knife fight? Discuss!) Still, confusing title choices aside, this seems like an interesting direction for the franchise.

The gist of SimCity Creator isn't too different from past SimCity games, and I'm told that the general level of complexity is about on par with SimCity 3000. The twist is that you'll play through a series of different ages, starting with the stone age and ending with the nuclear age. Since cavemen have a hard time with stuff like fire, it's unsurprising that your build options will be limited to residential areas and roadways at this point. You'll need to meet age-specific milestones in areas like approval rating and population before you're given the option to advance to the next age, at which point the look of your city will change, and you'll be given access to new technologies. As such, the game becomes more and more complicated as you progress from one age to the next.

SimCity Creator is being developed by the same Japanese team behind last year's SimCity DS, and graphically, it looks roughly the same, though your advisor has taken on the look of a character from MySims. While the changes being made to the SimCity formula are interesting, I came away feeling like it would make more sense as a single mode in a larger SimCity game. If you're hankering for a new portable SimCity experience, though, this looks like it will probably fit the bill.

Sounds pretty interesting. I need a reason to get back on the DS. Not sure this is it, but it's got some promise.

Oh, and Will Wright to win the knife fight!

will wright doesnt need a knife to beat sid! He could kill him with a demon powerpoint presentation or his vast creepy knowledge of care bears!

Will Wright is an extremely technical knife fighter, but all that genius is devoted to everything surrounding the knife fight. The velocity of the "shiv", the light refracted in blood, the evolutionary process of cuttin' fools. All the stuff at the periphery looks amazing, but its hard to know whether Double Dubba OOH has what it takes in he ring.
Sid Meier, however, is straight up TACTICS. He's gonna kill you in a knife fight, because he's fortified and he's been putting time into the conquest tree and his Trebuchet is position a square away, in case the battle turns nasty. Always bring a catapult to a knife fight, that's what Sid Meier says.

Sid Meier stands smiing, looking content and strangely happy. Will Wright  contemplates his first move, while still contemplating he thinks of another move. Sid Meier stands, Will Wright contemplates and then they strike. Will Wright wins but is never the same, he finishes his career making third party casual games for the Wii.

If it's a decent SimCity on the DS, I'm game.

In a knife fight between Wright and Meier, Wright would look at his knife for a while, contemplating every use he could possibly imagine for that particular instrument.  Meanwhile, Meier would have advanced all the way to modern technology and amassed a large batallion of tanks.  Wright would then gather his Sim spearmen (ordering them in Simlish, obviously) and completely defeat Meier's tanks, because everyone knows tanks don't stand a chance against spear-weilding idiots.

I completely don't care about this game...never really got that interested in SimCity games.  Civilization games, on the other hand...well, those games are just plain cool.

@MattBodega:  That just made my day, if not the entire week :D

Seems like a neat game, I'll have a look into this one.

Will Wright would just build a robot to fight for him. Think MacGyver. Will Wright wins.
