Billy Mitchell: He's sort of like the abortion issue.
Billy Mitchell: He's sort of like the abortion issue.
The past two years have thrown off my expectations for E3 so much that I'm still having a hard time picturing what the big show is going to look like this year. It intent on recreating the size of "E3 Classic," but what about the spectacle? The blaring music, the flashing lights, the smoke machines, the aggressively disinterested booth babes, the bizarre z-list celebrity appearances, the opulent parties and the pricey hangovers they induce? I suppose we won't really know the full scope of it until we get down there and receive our OnLive-branded hotel room key cards, but we do know that G4 will be doing its part to bring the spectacle back to E3 in a way I can get behind.

If you've seen The King of Kong: A Fist Full Of Quarters, you've got all the necessary backstory. If not, well, you should, because it's an awesome, if craftily edited, documentary about a bad-luck case named Steve Wiebe and his attempt to break the world record in Donkey Kong. A title held, with some amount of machiavellian machinations, by Billy Mitchell, a hot-sauce mogul with an affinity for American flag ties and paranoid, sociopathic, egomaniacal ramblings.

While Steve never achieved a Donkey Kong score over the course of The King of Kong that Twin Galaxies, the self-appointed governing body for video-game top scores, would recognize, he's going to take another shot, live on G4, at E3 2009. Wiebe will be there, Twin Galaxies will be there, G4 will be there, and I hope to God that, at some point, Billy Mitchell will be there. As far as I'm concerned, this is better than WrestleMania.

Well, there's nothing particularly wrong with Billy Mitchell. The documentary was edited in a way that made him look like an ass.

Billy Mitchell is a punk. he's intimitated by Steve Weibe, thats why he doesn't want to compete with him in the movie. I would like to finally see this shit go down with Steve and Billy at E3. this could be epic if they could pull this off.

I am entirely open to the idea that it was edited to be more entertaining, but you can only edit so much. There has to be some ass-like stuff to edit.

Entertainment at the expense of making someone they're not? That seems to go against the very definition of what a documentary is.

God, i fucking hated Billy Mitchel after watching King of Kong. He really is a fucking weirdo with his trophy wife and his fanboys that control the record books.

(lol i'm with you there that its better than wrestle mania, this will be epic if Weibi wins it on live TV and they shove the cameras in Mitchell's face saying "HOW DOES IT FEEL!?!?!"

STEVE'S THE MAN! DO IT, TO IT!

I agree with the fact that it was edited to make things look more stacked against Steve than they really were, and make Billy Mitchell look like more of a dick than he probably really is, but you can't deny that some of the stuff he said was arrogant as hell, regardless of how it was edited in.

King of Kong was really great.  I can see how Billy was probably put into a worse light than he might deserve.  My mom thinks all the people in the movie were acting, she can't believe they're all so nuts.

Wait, I thought Wiebe broke the record. Or does it have to be at Twin Galaxies hosted event?

He broke it and Billy took it back I believe.

Awesome!
And to put my asshole hat on: Twin Galaxies is Guinness Book-appointed, not self-appointed. DUUUUUUUUUHHHHH.

Steve did beat Billy's score after the movie was out, but then Billy did take it back.  Therefore, this is an attempt for Steve to set another world record.

Hope he does it, because the competition just needs to keep going and going on this one.  I love watching me some kill screens.

That seems to be what you inferred earlier, and now you're finding it redicilous.

Explain.
