Is NHL really violent enough to deserve a 16+ rating?

Looking at some of the 360 games I have here an NBA game is rated 3+, a Dynasty Warriors clone and Ace Combat is rated 12+ while NHL 09 is rated 16+ which is the same as Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Halo Reach. This of course is EU ratings.

Does this sound crazy to you too?

Not in Canada. And yes it does, cause hockey is awesome.

Proof.

Nothing like that is in the game. The fights are few and far between and only one on one and no blood, unlike Halo which has blood and plenty of weapons.

It's basically because dudes can fight each other. It's kind of ridiculous. It's E10+ here in Canada, while most other sports games are E.

I was in a bar a few months ago and saw a clip of a guy getting hit in the face no less than 15 times and then a highlight of someone getting body checked into the edge of where the benches are, knocking him out cold immediately. Yes, it deserves the rating.

EU ratings are always hella high when there's violence involved in the same way US ratings are high whenever there's language. The good thing is that the ratings don't really seem to matter that much in Europe, at least in Sweden where I'm from. I remember going to the local toy store to pick up Half-Life 2 (rated 16+) when that came out and next to it on the shelf was Doom 3, a Barbie game and an educational game with a turtle who taught you how to read.

I would say it deserves the rating more, space monkeys in power armour shooting each other offers a certain disconnect. Grown ups who these kids look up to beating the shit out of each other is a bit more direct.
