2K's annual ice hockey title, exclusive to Wii for the first time in the franchise's history. The cover athlete has been announced as Ryan Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks, who was also an Olympic Silver Medalist for Team USA.
The newest hockey game from 2K Sports has Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin as cover athlete for the 10th anniversary edition of the game.
NHL 2K9 is purported to be a refresh of the series, designed to be easy to pick-up-and-play with simplified controls; as was the first NHL licensed title on the Nintendo Wii.
For the 2008 edition of the 2K series, Jason Spezza of the Ottawa Senators was cover athlete.
NHL 2K7 was the seventh game in the series released on Xbox, Xbox360, PlayStation2, and PlayStation3.

In the 2004 edition of Sega's 2K series, the ESPN license is added, changing the presentation across the game. Jeremy Roenick of the Philadelphia Flyers serves as cover athlete for the second year in a row.
NHL 2K3 is the third game in 2K's long running NHL series, and featured Philadelphia Flyer Jeremy Roenick on the cover.
