Hey, just found this, not sure if it's a glitch or exploit or what but I hope it's useful to you.

Just outside Perdida (about 2-3 enemy encounters out of the town entrance) you'll find a tokotoko, if you fight him you'll earn 9,000 exp each battle, I have Oliver at lvl 48 and it's enough exp to level him up twice per battle.

Anyway, let me know if it works for you as I'm curious if it's a glitch or not, this kind of exploit isn't really my thing but if it's yours I hope this has helped in some way.

UPDATE: Looks like the tokodoko doesn't spawn 100% of the time but to clarify a little more if you're facing away from Perdida, you'll find him in the second wooded area on the left.

Nah not a glitch. In the final area, the upgraded versions of the tokotoko give like 23,000xp when you kill em.

They're rare and will often run away if you don't kill em fast enough, so I think it's intentional. It's definitely how I leveled my characters, too :)

Yeah...as others said, it's not a glitch or anything. They are basically this games version of the metal slimes from the Dragon Quest games.

I read that if you use the gateway spell it makes them pop somewhere on one of the 4 spawn points on that island. Don't know myself, haven't gotten that far yet.

I was referring to this, the context of which you'll need to understand this. I do not actually own Ni No Kuni.

There is also Ugly Duckling Island which can be accessed once you get the ship. It's to the north between the first two continents. Toko is on the island, they give 2000 exp per kill.

Not a glitch, but still strange. I went there (Perdida) before the story required me to. I was farming Moon Crystals off the Ouroboros and the crystal node at the top of the mountains. Running along the path from Perdida to the dead end, I'd sometimes see 3+ Tokotoko spawns. I was seeing more of them than the Ouroboros I needed. Between them and farming for a Toko on Ugly Duckling Isle, my characters are leveled way too high. Everyone is 81+ and I just finished that Ice Cavern dungeon.

That is a good place to boost up levels for some of the late-game business. It becomes easier to catch them on the map if you get Veil.

I was planning to catch an Auralynx around there, but when I realized it was full of Tokotoko's I decided against it, because I knew I would end up overleveling in the process to the point where the rest of the game is boring.

@Zeik: That happened to me. I over fought the toko guys and by the time I reached the end of the game I was so over powered the last boss fights were kind of a joke.

But they are useful for fast leveling new or under leveled familiars.

The Toko in the Ivory Tower gives you 26000 exp. I'd go for that one.

Like everyone has said they are part of the game and each later form gives you more exp. I say it fine if you don't get there too early. In fact Its quite nice end game so you can level familiars outside of your main crew pretty fast.
